Majority of foreigners fly into Buenos Aires, spend a few days there and go to the local airport, called Jorges Newberry Airport,  to catch local flights to Patagonia. There are flights daily to San Carlos de Bariloche as well as El Calafate and El Chalten .   Aerolineas offers this regional travel service and if booked in advance, it is not very expensive.

The bus  to Bariloche takes 24 hours.  Since many travelers tour both the Chilean side of Patagonia as well as the Argentinean side, one option to travel from Chile or Argentina is going to and from   Bariloche and Puerto Varas/Puerto Montt (Chile) via boat and bus. This journey takes about 12 hour boat/bus trip, combines multiple lakes, and is provided by Catedral Turismo.

For the most daring perhaps, there is the option to drive through the Patagonia highways. This way combines national roads with paved roads and more ‘provincial’ unpaved routes. However, it may be one of the best ways to truly see the expanse of Patagonia and the variation of fauna. One must plan out this route very methodically however and be flexible with the time frame since the weather and conditions can be generally very unpredictable. Also, travelers should be sure if renting a car that the car is in good conditions before embarking on this journey.
