“I was pretty happy with it”

Four Points by Sheraton Philadelphia Northeast

Hi- I stayed at this hotel in June 07 and my experience was pretty positive. The room was very large, we had a king bed with a pull out; the room was clean and comfortable and hotel staff were nice. If you are coming to Philadelphia for the tourist experience, I would stay in one of the downtown hotels. But if you need to be in Northeast Philadelphia- close to the turnpike, Sesame Place, etc, I think this is actually a pretty good choice. In this area, there are a few Holiday Inns, a Radisson, a couple of lesser known chains and some independents- some of the independents are okay, others cater to the "day rate" crowd. The Doubletree is right on Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1), well within the City proper; the others in that Northeast hotel cluster are closer to the city border or in Bucks County. A word to first time visitors: the area is not at all tourist-y. it is a residential section and the hotels are surrounded by strip malls and shopping centers and tend to be on major highways. If you're looking for a vacation experience, look elsewhere; but if you're in transit or have business in the Northeast, I think this hotel is just fine,

“No Doubletree Like I Have Seen Before”

Four Points by Sheraton Philadelphia Northeast

Hotel is not like any Doubletree I have ever stayed at. Most are nice, but this one is outdated, old and in much need of improvemnent. Its obviously an attempted ronovation of an old hotel that they cut down the cost of the renovation drastically. The drians were slow to drain and had rings in the bathtub. The walls were very thin and you can hear ur neighbor talking on the phone. There was maybe one vending machine working in the whole hotel and it was out of beverages. the staff was not very friendly or accomodateable either.

“I'd find somewhere else”

Hotel is in a not so convenient location. I'd sent written requests before hand which were not acknowledged. Room seemed as though someone had been in it for a short time, then was not turned over. Three of the four glasses were really dirty, I do not mean not thoroughly cleaned, I mean used and not cleaned. There was lot of hair on the bathroom floor and in the shower. There was a sock that was left under the edge of the bed. The remote control did not work. I called the front desk about it, was put on hold, clerk did not pick back up. I had to call back. Maintenance man was nice and helpful. I put the card they provide on the bed (as it directs) requesting that the sheets be changed each of the two times the room was cleaned since the room seemed iffy when I arrived. Bed was made up, but linens were never changed. There was only one entrance to the hotel, which was a little inconvenient, since my room was as far as you could possibly be from the front door. To top it all off, the last morning of my vacation, trying to sleep in, I received a phone call waking me up at 8:30am (my alarm was set for 9 and no one had my number, so I did not answer the phone.) When I got up there was a letter which had been slid under my door from the manager stating the hot water was going to be turned off at 9am for maintenance. I found later the phone call at 8:30 was to tell me the hot water was going to be turned off at 9. Nice... I am not generally a picky person. I know you usually get what you pay for. It's for this reason I'm disappointed this upscale establishment came up so short. I would not stay here again. There are plenty of other places that are better for the same $ or less. I guess I should say something nice. The bed was comfortable.

“Poor Housekeeping”

I had trash from a previous guest still on the floor in my room! Tissue paper (yuck!) and an aspirin wrapper on the floor. I noticed these items when I checked in, but was too tired to deal with changing rooms or notifying the desk. The next morning I stopped by to notify managment but there was a line so I had to go to work.

The worst part of the issue is that the tissue paper remained there after the maid did the room up again the next day! At that point I did have a discussion with the desk clerk, who apoligied and said I would receive extra Hilton points for my trouble. Which didn't happen.

Otherwise the place really doesn't have much to recommend it. There must be better places to recommend in the area. The only dining option on site was an Au Bon Pain with a seriously nasty breakfast buffet.

On a positve note, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet.

“Good for the options you have in NE Philly”

I must be honest, I had a bad stay at this location in 2003 (dirty, poor service, parties after midnight in the halls) so with some trepidation I tried it again hoping for better. I'm happy to report things were better this time around--check in staff was attentive, actually made eye contact and was friendly, rooms have been been updated somewhat, clean--at least during my 2 night stay, and no smoke leaching into my room from the floors above or below. Both nightstand lights were out and after asking the made both were fixed that day and they offerred me one of their warm cookies--amusing, but at least they fixed them. I didn't try the pool or the Au Bon Pain so check the other reviews for those. As for the area, I grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and it's pretty much strip malls and more strip malls, row houses and single family homes so for the area it's one of the nicer ones--Radisson up Roosevelt Boulevard in Trevose is probably the only other one I would recommend since I've stayed there too. As for food options, hotel is surrounded by restaurants and fast food is in walking distance so onsite food didn't really matter to me. As for the room, with most hotels--even lower bracket ones moving to flat screens and nice comforters this location is dated with their TVs and flimsy paper thin blankets--reminds me of a 70s Holiday Inn, but at $100+ a nite it should be nicer. Will stay again though.
