“This is the biggest scam hotel in vegas”

Desert Tides

Jun 20, 2008

Booked a stay at the Desert Tides while I was relocating to Las Vegas and needed a place to stay for an extended period of time while my new home was going through escrow. Was quoted a decent rate and shown a room that was gorgeous--42" plasmas in the main and bedrooms. Clean, nice furniture. The works

When I checked in I was given a room with a 26" LCD, unmade bed and a couch that collapsed when you sat on it. After several days of complaining I did get the couch replaced, but was told the tv was not going to be replaced and I could not move to a room with a Plasma since they are used as show rooms.

Oh, and while there was a phone in my room, I use my cell for the first couple of days, but when I finally did try and use the phone I found it was not connected.

Their excuse is that all the rooms are individually owned and it is up to the owned to furnish and decorate. Half the place is actually empty and not open for occupancy.

Next week the pool was shut down and then finally the big bomb. Since my room was individually owned, I was rudely awakened by local law enforcement that told me the owner had defaulted on their loan and the unit had been foreclosed and I had 20 minuted to vacate. Real nice. Management did arrange another room and but gave no help in moving my stuff. And I was told the new room would be at twice the rate.

I made a big stink about this and even though was paid up for two more weeks, I returned from work to find almost everything I owned on the sidewalk in garbage bags. I say everything, because my laptop and several other expensive items never made it out of the room.

The only bright side is they did refund my remaining balance. And it seems Nevada law doesn't take too kindly to these tactics and I am assured I will be made fully whole.

This is a place to avoid at all costs

“Don't Stay Here!! Ever!”

First of all, the hotel staff is not really a staff. They may be here today, but gone tomorrow. They made a mistake on our booking, and then when we arrived said they had one room and we could stay one night. So we frantically called other hotels, wasting valuable vacation time and cell phone minutes (the rooms have no phones). When I went to the desk to check out, they said they couldn't imagine why, they had plenty of rooms! OK, after that, extremely expensive items were stolen from our room. This caused panic and more time spent at the desk. Not to mention that they do not even pretend to heat the pool or spa. There is no shuttle, so you'd better have your own transp. or a rental car. When we were there the electricity went out for hours. Please, so you don't ruin your trip, go to a reputable hotel where you are guaranteed a nice vacation.

“Desert Tides is a Terrible Place to Stay”

Desert Tides

1 of 5 stars
baltimore,md
Mar 31, 2008

This property,is in terrible condition. The stairs, leading to my
room, were old, shakey, and felt as if they were about to fall from the exterior structure. The condo was not completely clean, There was dirt and ceiling plaster,on the closet shelves. The bathroom sink was clogged and there was hair, all over the bathroom floor and shower area. The oven was filthy. The ceiling fan,in the dining area did not work. The dishwasher and sink area leaked....the maintenance staff came to repair the leaks.....and made the situation worse than it originally was. There were new appliances (dishwasher, stove, refrigerator) that had not been cleaned or plugged in,for test runs. The furnace did not work...I had to use the oven to heat the place, during my first night. This was an awful experience...for a tourist.

The fireplace was a mess, and was missing parts, of the wire front screen. There were no curtains, only blinds that were not properly fitted,to the windows. There were no pictures,on the walls. There were no rugs in the living room and dining room area, the marble tile floor,in the living room was cracked and parts were loose. The balcony screen door had a broken lock.

The light bulbs in the exterior halls had blown out,and were not replaced, during my time,at this location. The exterior lawn needs attention. The exterior stairs...are a fire hazard.

The only positives, are the new furnishings, and a washer/dryer unit. This is not a safe place for anyone to stay. I never observed any security features....the doors are old and do not close tightly. I would not recommend this place...to anyone. It is ,greatly ,in need of repair.

I had to stay here ,a few days ,until I found another place, with a full kitchen. I have to have ,that type of set up ,because I have a medical condition, and must prepare my own meals. I went to a local Walmart Store and purchased rugs and material to create no-sew curtains...for the place. Yes....that's how awful it looked.

It took a few days...but I left this place, as soon as I found another condo. I am still negotiating,to get my money refunded.

This place was great! I was able to bring my dog for only $50 extra for my whole stay! Inexpensive and very nice apartment type setting! By reading others reviews I requested a room on the 3rd level. =) .... The room is equiped with everything from utensils, dishes, extra blankets you name it! We went to the nearest supermarket and were able to cook up our meals with no problem at all. It really felt like home, plasma Tv's nice leather couches, oversized bathtub, huge bed, great deco! =) You will not regret this place! They do have hairdryers and iron/ironing board...No phone so bring a cell phone along. The staff was awesome and very attentive. The Rio is right across the street but if your going to the strip it's not within walking distance so either call a cab or go to the Rio to take their free shuttle! =).... This place was awesome totally beats any high end room on the strip! =)

“Badly flawed”

Despite negative comments on TA, I went ahead and booked a week's stay at Desert Tides (formerly Cay Club, Las Vegas). The welcome was very warm by the desk staff. However, there are major problems with this hotel for the overseas/out of town visitor without transport.

Problem 1: The rooms are apartment type with bathroom, lounge, kitchen and bedroom. The sound insulation is very poor and you can clearly hear other residents moving about and talking. The fire escape (stairs) are made of metal and very noisy.

Problem 2: Unless you have transport the nearest supermarket for food and essentials is a $34 return taxi ride away.

Problem 3: The Cay Club is about a forty minute walk away from the Strip across a very busy highway.

Problem 4: The air conditioning/heating is extremely noisy and woke me up repeastedly. I was assured there was no control of this apart from OFF, with the result one would freeze.
