I had no idea what would be the best hotel to book in Vegas, as they are part of the main attraction there. I had a budget and was amazed at how much I got for my money in this place. I booked the flights and hotel separatley (Hotel.com) and got an amazing deal on a twin room for 6 nights.
As you enter the hotel through the main entrance, you can start to see the sheer size of this place, its out of this world. Check in was easy and fast with no problems and we didn't see the suitcases until we got to our rooms about 20mins later, he was waiting for us.
Our room looked out over New York New York, but suprisingly was very very quiet. I think the windows were sounds proof! It was spotless and was cleaned every day and fresh towels were left for us. The beds were out of this world, I don't think I have ever slept that well away from home!!
The hotel is huge, we got lost quite a few times as all the lobbies look the same. I think the carpet is colour coded, but it really did not help with my direction.
After arriving, we checked out all the other hotels on the strip to have a nosey and see what kind of deal we had got. In my opinion, MGM was by far the nicest and cleanest out of all the other hotels in the same price budget as this. I had looked at New York, Luxor, Paris and The Stratosphere and I am so glad we were staying where we were. The rest of the hotels were really run down and pretty grotty (I can't comment on the hotel rooms) but the actual hotel/casinos were not that nice. If you can afford slightly more for your hotel, I would definatley recomend you to stay in the Belagio, Caesers Palace, Mirage or Wynn, these are by far the nicest hotels, but sadly I could not afford them on my budget!
I would definately recomend the helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon too, it was totally amazing and one of the best experiences I have ever had. I am scared of flying but the pilot Brian (Pavillion Air) was great and explained how it all worked to calm me down. They take you over the canyons were you can see wild horses and the most amazing scenery and then they land on the floor of one of the canyons for a champagne picnic. We watched the sun setting and then headed back over the canyons and towards the bright lights of Vegas. It cost approx £120 pp and was done through their website, it was easy to do and worth every penny!
While you are there you must see the fountain show outside the Belagio. It is on every 15mins and they rotate the shows every hour, but rather than wait with everyone on the pavement outside to try and get a glimpse, go up the Eifel Tower in Paris Hotel oposite and you will be able to see it much better from up there (no good if you don't like heights).
I owuld recomend going up the Stratosphere hotel too, to the observation deck up there. We did this both in the day and night when its all lit up. It is also very cheap to do too!!
There is a monorail that runs between all the hotels, we used it a few time and walked the strip a few times while we were there. It is more scenic on foot as the monorail runs behind and in between all the hotels but it is much better if your feet are hurting!
If you like your bargains, there is an outlet shopping mall about 5-10mins from the strip. They have all your favourite stores at up to 75% off. Go buy yourself a diamond ring from there, they are so cheap and really pretty. I actually had mine valued when I got back to Britain and it was worth more than triple what I paid for it!!
Go and see one of the shows while you are there too. O at the Belagio was amazing. We even manage to see Justin Timberlake at the Mirrage, the tickets are very reasonable too.
The pool at the hotel was gorgeous, my photos look like postcards!! It was cleaned constantly and there are life guards at every pool. The main pool was pretty busy with music on in the background, but not too loud, there was a pool with really loud music playing and looked like it was full of US college kids and then there was another pool called the Directors Pool where you can rent cabana's out for the day. They are extremely expensive for what they are but very cool!! There are misters all around the pool area which provide you with a ice cold mist of air, which were good! They also have a lazy river where you can float around on dingies!!
The restaurants in the hotel were amazing roo. We tried the oriental one (the chinese was to die for!!) and Pearl which was also very good.
The casino in MGM was great too and much cleaner than most of the others that we visited.
The only problem I had with Vegas was the heat, it was far too hot for me in Aug and you couldn't really lie out by the pool for very long either. I would definately go back but maybe a different time of year instead. I would go for the weekend too, even though its a 14hour flight because its well worth it!!!
