I stayed at the Blue Moon for almost a week, and when I arrived to my surprise they had upgraded me to a two room suite overlooking the pool at no extra charge. The room was absolutely stunning with large sitting room, king bed ,dual flat screens, wireless intenet, a huge bath and much more. During that time there were many planned pool activities, BBQ's, live DJ's, full bar around the pool and you could charge everything to your room. They had even added room service and had it delivered to the pool. My stay was nothing short of amazing. John the owner was around to make sure that each guest was happy and the staff was very attentive. Rooms were immaculate and elegant. Every amenity in the room was thought through from flat screen TV's to toothpaste and razors. The only thing that ran short was come coffee at breakfast one morning, and that was tended to quickly. It was a quick 5 minute drive to the strip, and a nice hideaway from the craziness of the large hotels.
Enjoy boys...enjoy! You will LOVE it.

I recently stayed at the Blue Moon and must say it was just ok. It certainly lacks some amenities that I'm used to when traveling. A safe in the room would be nice. While the room is beautifully decorated it is quite small and claustophobic.

Also, the resort is in a horrible location. If you like being in an industrial area, this place is for you. There's no restaurants nearby and it's not safe to be walking at night. You'll definitely need to rent a car if you want to see the strip. Cabs take forever to get to the resort.

Don't think I'll be staying there again. For the price I paid I could have had a larger room in a much better location

Positives far outweighed negatives for me & my friends on our first stay at Blue Moon on a recent weekend. Desk staff was friendly & helpful. Housekeeping staff was even pleasant! We also found fellow guests to be friendly.
Room was clean and bed comfortable. Product samples in bathroom beyond the usual soap/shampoo/ lotion was nice touch. Decor throughout is nice. The owner (who seemed ever present and was very helpful & nice) told me he's put a lot of money into the place (and continues to), and it shows!
The pool area is a bit tight but nice. The Sunday afternoon pool event (dj, food, booze) brought out some nice eye candy.
In case you have a preference, note that the first floor rooms have tile floors like the hallways and the upstairs rooms are carpeted.
It was cheaper on their website to book our 2 rooms one at a time than both at once. Just be sure at checkin to point out you have 2 separate bookings. We drove in from out of town and it was a little tricky finding the place and also manueving the nearby streets. These negatives, however, won't keep us from returning!

“I booked, I stayed, I left early”

Blue Moon Resort for Gay Men

I booked this resort through the web site and it seemed a very nice resort, even though it is off the strip, and expensive when compared to other hotels on and off the strip. However I do like to support gay resorts where possible.

I contacted the resort before booking they informed me that they had a driver that worked for tips that could take guests to the strip etc. or alternatively a taxi was around $8 (the resort is near the Artisan Hotel, which is the best way to get give directions).

When I arrived in Las Vegas finding the resort was a problem. None of the shuttle companies go to the resort, so the only option you have is to take a taxi - however most taxi drivers have no idea where the resort is so be prepared to give them directions. However the resort is visible from the freeway as you come into Vegas.

Starting with the good points -

Initial impressions of the resort are good. Check in was easy and I got a warm welcome. However when I enquired about the driver and getting to the strip I was informed that they were "in between drivers". So only option was a taxi. Walking is an option but probably easier to get a cab. Although some reviews have suggested that the resort is in a bad area, I would disagree - it is in an commercial/industrial zone. I didn't see any hobos or other signs of problems.

The rooms are of a central corridor and are large in size, and very clean and well furbished - although you can't really keep your curtains open as there are plain windows behind, and I didn't like the living in permanent darkness. Rooms come with a fridge and have two televisions - one in the sitting room and one in the bed room. There is a resort information channel, as well as the usual TV channels and adult content. Free wi-fi is included and the resort provides terminals in the resort for those without laptop computers.

All rooms have large (and noisy) air conditioners. However they work, but I wouldn't want them on overnight - but that may just be me!

One bizarre point is that then beds have boxed sides, and although I am 6ft I had to "hop" up and off the beds which was a little odd. However the beds are comfortable and well kept.

The pool area is nice and gets plenty of sun. The pool is warm and free towels are available poolside.

So why the low star rating? -

I only lasted two nights at the resort out of a booking of 8 nights.

Despite the facilities the resort is next to two freeways and a railway line and I only managed 4 hours sleep the first night due to the noise of trucks and traffic coming along the freeway. I moved rooms the next day and managed 2 hours the next day. Whether this had been affected by jet lag I'm not sure - the previous couple of nights had been fine in LA.

I left the resort, and moved to a hotel on the strip. The owner took the room moves and my departure well (I suspect I wasn't the first guest to complain about the traffic noise - there are comments about the noise in other reviews), and refunded my outstanding monies.

If your coming to Vegas for a weekend then the Blue Moon may be for you (it seems to have a number of repeat customers) - especially if your okay with traffic noise, and have your own car.

However if your a light sleeper or want to spend time on the strip then may not be for you.

Also there are no dining facilities at the resort. I didn't try the breakfast provided as I was trying to hard to sleep! Lunch can be ordered in from local dinners, however there is a minimum tip of 18% and a delivery fee added, and the last order for any food is 2pm. If you want anything after that you need to go either to the strip or one of the off strip casinos.

However if I come back to Vegas I will stay on the strip and visit the Blue Moon on a day pass. Would I recommend the Blue Moon - perhaps but with warnings as to traffic noise and location.

“Beautiful hotel, minor glitches!”

Blue Moon Resort for Gay Men

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my birthday this year. I have to say that I'm not a big fan of all gay resort properties, mostly because I'm in a committed LTR, and we don't share. On the other hand, Las Vegas is a tourist trap, and I didn't want to be stuck in tourist hell, so this was a perfect compromise.

From what I understand, this hotel used to be a dumpy motel. I have to give props to the owner for remodeling this place and making it gay fabulous. This is one of the nicest all gay resorts I've stayed in. Yes, there is a steam room where guys are probably having sex, and it's clothing optional at the pool, but overall I did not feel intimidated or stuck in a bad porno movie, this place was classy and chic, and I felt safe, comfortable, and secure throughout my stay. I will say that if you're coming here to try and get lucky, the majority of the clientele are older, not a lot of twinks walking around if you know what I mean.

The waterfall lagoon pool was relaxing. There were a lot of day pass users, that is people who come just to relax but are not staying at the hotel, so it kind of makes for a fun mix of locals and tourists alike, and obviously if the locals are coming here to relax you know you've found a sweet spot in terms of relaxation. It is clothing optional, and honestly the scenery was a bit fun to watch, my bf and I were giggling and enjoying watching some italian stallion. ;)

In terms of the room, I was very impressed at how comfortable the bed is, and how chic the room was decorated. I especially love the headboard, which is exactly as pictured on the web site. You will get a good nights sleep at this place, provided you turn on your heat/ac unit on the wall, and drown out the freeway noise outside. Afterall, this is Vegas, and I can't think of any time of year where you won't need either heating or AC, so it's not that big of a deal. On the other hand, if you're a light sleeper and/or you don't drink, you might have some issues. ;)

The rooms all seem to have fridges in them, which was a nice touch. They are actually built inside of the dresser, which took us a day to figure out, but when we did we were very happy to be able to chill our wine in the fridge.

The bathrooms are small, but adequate, and the tub/shower is very clean and has awesome water pressure and perfect drainage. They provide quite a few free toiletries such as a Schick razor which I thought would cost extra, but the maid informed me they are all free!

The TV has 4 channels of free gay adult programming, and the wireless internet is free. This is a nice touch given that most hotels charge extra for all this stuff. In fact, for those who complain about the cost of the rooms, you need to look at the overall picture because most hotels nickel and dime you for adult movies and internet access. I will say the internet access was touch and go, they have 2 wireless networks, one is 3rd floor, the other is 1st. If you have problems with the 1st floor one then try the 3rd floor one. I was on the 2nd floor and was able to pick up both, each time my internet started going slow, I just selected the other one and it seemed to work ok. They also have a computer in the lobby and one in the "internet lounge" area which you can use for free.

So, onto the glitches. The elevator is a bit old and creepy, and one time we got in and it went to the 3rd floor even though we selected the first floor. In addition, the vending machines run out of stuff, so make sure you bring some water with you before you come to the hotel. I went to the front desk and told him the vending machine on the 1st and 2nd floor was out of water, and asked him if we could get some water, and he said "Sorry, try the vending machine on the 3rd floor". I realize a hotel is made to make money, but the least he could have done was offered me some complimentry water, or had some at the front desk to sell to me. There is nothing within walking distance, so if you need anything you are going to have to drive or take a cab. Given the off strip location, a cab will cost you quite a bit. On the other hand, I was able to walk over to Palace Station casino with no problems. A bit creepy, but I can assure you it's actually safe, so no worries. Palace has a few restaurants, and a decent buffet. I actually went there and played $5 blackjack for 4 hours, and didn't loose a penny. Nothing like drinking for free while enjoying blackjack! :)

Overall, this place is great, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to deal with the normal hetereosexual tourist crowd in Vegas. Just make sure you bring plenty of your own beverages to stock in your fridge (including water), and have a car handy to get around town.

By the way, even though the neighborhood appears sketchy, there is a new hip and chic urban hotel (for heteros) nearby called the Artisan. I think between Blue Moon and Artisan they are doing a great job of trying to keep the neighborhood up, and I never saw any scarry people walking around so it's not as bad as it may look.
