We stayed here with our 3 children in Oct 2008 for 2 nights. We had a room with a car park view but it was quiet and we never had any security concerns. The breakfast was dreadful affair ; no proper tables, people pushing and grabbing and they ran out of the most popular items. We took breakfast back to our room to avoid the horror. For a family of 5 it was good value but if it was just my husband and I I would stay right on the strip. We had been to Vegas 18 years ago and found it had become more sleazy with pornographic cards being handed to my 15 year old as we walked along in the evening from 9pm. It was also the only place in our 3 week tour of east and west coasts of US that we felt a bit unsafe and the kids also. The pool was cold as was the spa. Gd value if you can get a deal but we probably won't return.

Too many great things about this place to mention...

Solid breakfast (with the usual bread, cereal, coffee and juice - but also hard boiled eggs, ham, fruit). Great coffee machine! (Espresso!!!) Very spacious rooms (we were a group of 7 adults and one baby and had two two-bedroom suites side by side). Loved the fully equipped kitchen with a stove, large fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc. (nice to be able to stay in and cook + keep snacks in the fridge instead of eating at a restaurant for every meal). Free beer and wine and munchies during daily happy hour (with live entertainment on many nights). Friendly and helpful staff! Yummy and huge cookies put out in the breakfast/happy hour area every afternoon (unfortunately we didn't discover this marvel until the second or third day of our stay). Free parking.

Yes - this place isn't right on the strip. But it's a very short walk.

A few small negatives - some of the gym equipment needed some maintenance work and our dishwasher didn't seem to want to wash.

However the positives by far out-weighed the negatives and we will definitely stay here again!

Very good value for the money!

This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of the hotel/casinos on the south end of the strip (about a block off the strip). And, to make it even better, it was very reasonably priced. Their pool area was great and the service was excellent! We had two maintenance issues during our stay and they fixed both right away. We also liked that it didn't have a casino at the hotel. We could walk to a casino, etc easily and when we were done, we could return to a more relaxed and quiet environment. The suites were clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were so pleased and would definitely stay here again.

“An all around great place to stay.”

Stayed three nights and was definitely impressed. This resort is a great place to stay if you're planning a trip to Vegas on a budget. Booked a one bedroom suite - living room, dining area, full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The room was extremely clean and looked to have been recently renovated. For a one bedroom, the room was extremely spacious - probably larger than your typical hotel room. The resort is only about a block from the strip with a short walk through the parking lot between the Tropicana and Hooters. They offer a free continental breakfast every morning which was nice - a great way to save a little extra cash. They also offer a free managers reception Sun.-Thurs. from 5-7pm with free beer/wine/cocktails and snacks. It's something we didn't take advantage of, but it's nice to know that it's available. Overall, the stay was a good experience - as long as you don't mind not having an in-house casino, this place is the perfect place to stay.

“Wonderful...just wonderful!”

Desert Rose Resort

5 of 5 stars
Berkhamsted, UK
Nov 11, 2008

We stayed at the Desert Rose for 5 nights at the end of October/beginning of November and don't have a single criticism about them.
Every staff member we met, from the reception staff to the cleaning staff were polite, friendly, courteous and eager to help us as much as they could. They didn't even get grumpy when we decided to book in for an extra night and then changed our minds about which night that would be...twice! (We were originally going to tack an extra night on to the end of our initial stay but then decided to have the extra night after we got back from our 2 nights in Death Valley)
Our suite (standard king) was spacious, clean, well maintained, quiet and homely, the bed large and comfortable and everything we could have possibly needed in the kitchen (other than food, obviously) was provided for us. It really did feel like a home from home. The cleaning staff were prompt and efficient, every evening we returned to a clean and tidy set of rooms, they even put our dirty coffee mugs in the dishwasher on the one occassion we left them out.
We had heard poor reviews of the breakfast buffet so avoided it for our first two mornings but on the third day we decided to give it a go, my boyfriend sallied forth and returned to our room with seeded bagels, ham, hard boiled eggs, cream cheese & mayonnaise, we then used our own facilities to toast the bagels and make them up ourselves. These were so tasty and such a resounding success that this is what we did every morning for the rest of our stay so I have to say that we disagree with the other reviewers about the breakfast, although admittedly we did not try and sit in the lobby and eat it. So maybe a top tip for people staying at the Desert Rose would be to collect breakfast from the buffet and take it back to the comfort of your suite to eat it!
The walk to the Strip is very short, less than 5 minutes and you're at the MGM Grand or NYNY, we didn't find it a problem at all to walk this little extra distance.
In short, we loved the Desert Rose and would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be staying there again.
