My boyfriend and I stayed here for a rock climbing vacation in October. The hotel is an easy (10 minute) drive from Red Rock Canyon.

We had originally wanted to stay at the Red Rock Resort ("RRR"), but it was booked up for some of our days. Last time we were here, we stayed at the RRR, which was fabulous.

The Marriott is very pleasant, in a low-key way, but it is definitely not as posh and glitzy as RRR. If you want to stay someplace more "Vegas" - beautiful people, sumptuous interior, clubs, glitzy casino, etc., stay at RRR.

The Marriott had great service, a very low key environment (didn't feel underdressed walking around in shorts), and good food at the restaurants. It is undoubtably a comfortable hotel...just not glamourous.

I had a spa treatment at the Marriott's spa, which was great. The spa, like the rest of the hotel, is very nice and relaxing...but not exactly "sumptuous" or "glamourous" like RRR.

The casino at the Marriott was, frankly, depressing. Like visiting a nursing home. I did not play anything in the casino, but had to walk through it to get from one side of the hotel to the other. It is smoky, dull, and I didn't see anyone under the age of (it appeared) 75 in there. Worse of all, no one was smiling....they seemed catatonic. Then again, if you are going to gamble, you'll be staying in downtown Vegas anyway.

I originally had the room reserved for $250 a night, but called back a few days before we arrived and got a deal of $220 a night plus breakfast. The breakfast buffet was very good, and would have costs $30 for the two of us had it not been included.

In short, I would recommend the Marriott as a nice place to stay, especially for golfers or for those wanting to explore Red Rock Canyon...but it is not as glamourous or post as the Red Rock Resort.

Fantastic Stay with Great Service! We have traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary for the last 7 years. This was our 3rd stay at the JW during that time and we have decided that all of our future Vegas stays will be here. The staff was and has been the best we have encountered during any of our stays in Vegas. We have stayed at the Signature at MGM, Mirage, The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, and the Venetian which were all nice, but the space and staff can not compare to JW Marriott. The staff and management were very attentive and greeted us by our names when we saw them (special thank you for treating us royally to the Front Desk staff and Valet at the Palms Tower). It was wonderful to start the day sitting on our suite's balcony and eating breakfast while overlooking a great view of the strip and Red Rock Canyon. While the accommodation are due for a renovation (no flat screen TVs yet and its time to update the furniture), everything was lovely.

We also ate the breakfast buffet at Ceres which was very nice (we had a great waitress from Chicago who kept us smiling and laughing during our visits). Again, I highly recommend this location for couples seeking some quiet time together and who don’t mind the 15 minute drive to the strip. It’s well worth the drive. I attended a pharmaceutical investigators meeting this past weekend (October 2008) at the JW Marriott Resort and Spa . SOME COMMENTS:
* Entire resort smelled of smoke.
* Do Not stay if you have allergies. Smoke was enough to make you sick.
* In order to use the spa, you must enter into the smoke infested Casino.
* All floors smelled of smoke.
* VERY FAR from the Las Vegas Strip. Average cost was $60.00.
* Shuttle to the Las Vegas STrip ended at 11:30 p.m.
* Shuttle Rider just dropped guest off with no information. Ended up on the "Ghetto" end of the Strip.
* Outside jacuzzi was often closed due to multiple outdoor weddings.
* Spa OVER PRICED.

I stayed here for one night and found the experience to be just okay. The hotel was horribly understaffed; it took forever to get the front desk to answer the phone, 10 minutes for the valet to retrieve the car , and there was absolutely no one to be found by the pool for help with towels.

The hotel has good bones that speak to the resort it was before it became part of Marriott. My room was very large and comfortable, but the juxtaposition between the original details (crown moulding and the ceiling fan) and the new details (hideous beige vinyl wallpaper) tells me that despite the lovely surroundings, it is still a Marriott.

Also, the casino is quite tired.
