This hotel has glowing reviews, and for the most part well deserved.
I had a recent 4 night stay here and although I liked it, I didn’t love it.
There are several reasons this hotel falls short.
I made reservations through a travel agent well in advance, to celebrate a very special anniversary
Upon check in, we were rushed off to a no view room, right next the elevators. So if you check into this hotel make sure you don’t receive a room near the elevators or you will hear a rumbling noise all night long.
Another problem was the Spa. Do not pay extra to use the spa pools. This is a 25.00 charge.
They claim in the brochure that “there are six invigorating chambers of the outdoor Hydro-circuit pool" Ummm well, only two were working. They need matience badly at the spa pool area. Things looked worn down and in need of repair.
There is no pool service at the Spa pools, which is not too good as if you wanted a drink you had to wander into the locker rooms
The main pool was large and seemed to have many people enjoying themselves but a couple times time I attempted to relax by the pool it was close do to "special events” One time was a wedding, not sure about the other time, but was closed due to a special occasion, which left the majority of the guest without a pool area to enjoy.
The Irish pub was nice and had wonderful fish and chips.
Shizen the Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar was out of this world, excellent service and food. Don’t miss this.
Breakfast buffet at Ceres in the hotel was very good, they have a nice omelet station, try the made to order waffles, excellent!!
For some reason the hotel restaurants had a hard time accepting Marriott gift cards we received as gifts for our anniversary.
They would say they cant accept since they are not owned by Marriott,,,but the front desk told another story and said they are accepted everywhere on the Marriott property,,,bottom line,,,BIG HASSLE...Marriott needs to get their stories straight and on the same page.
Maid service was spotty at best, first two nights received room cleaning, last two nights, nothing, and they didn’t show up.
I happened to catch a maid in the hallway and asked why my room wasn’t cleaned, and I got a "no speak English" response....ok whatever, moving on…
They need to update the TV's...most hotels of this star rating has flat screens by now. The bed and the sheets were very comfortable. I happened to look at when the mattress was purchased and it was back in 1999, so maybe a refurbish would be a good idea sometime in the near future.
At check out I brought up the problem of mold that was in our shower, they seemed surprised, not sure if they were surprised I brought it up, or it had mold. They made a note of it and said would have it checked out.
As I said, this was our anniverery and several other reviews said they were sent, a bottle of champaign, strawberries and chocolates to their room..., no such luck here. Although my travel agent made sure to let the hotel know about the special anniversary celebration the hotel they seemed to just ignore it.
The valet service was great; the guys very fast, helpful and friendly.
The hotel seemed to do the bulk of their business with convention guests, and this is who they prefer to cater to, very little leisure guests and I can tell the business guest are number one here and treated so, vacationers are a after thought.
As I said, I did like the hotel, but it fell short of my expectations.
