Set in a pleasant residential area of west Las Vegas, the Suncoast is a well-kept hotel/casino catering to frequent Las Vegas visitors who have tired of the endless traffic and construction noise of The Strip. (The Bellagio, for example, seems to be surrounded by sprouting high-rises topped by giant cranes.)
The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with wall-to-wall, floor-
to-ceiling windows. Request the golf course side and you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the greens, as well as the small pool area of the hotel.
Though our room was beginning to show some signs of use (stains on sofa and chair), it was kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff.
The Suncoast also provides visitors with movie theatres and a bowling alley - but, disappointingly, no spa.
Parking is plentiful and the lot well lit. There is a shuttle bus to the Orleans and the Gold Coast. I'm not sure about the other Boyd properties.
The players cards are being updated to include all of the Boyd casinos which include the above as well as the California, Sam's Town and Main Street.
Though we qualified for the casino rate, this was still high compared to other Coast hotels. The Suncoast does have seasonal specials which are good value and worth signing up for their e-mails.
Across the street from the Suncoast is a brand new, low-rise, mega-
shopping center complete with upscale stores and restaurants. The Red Rock Casino is just a short drive away.
We can recommend the buffet, with a good selection of freshly prepared food. The breakfast buffet was provided with our room. The casino and hotel staff were pleasant and courteous. Beverage service was prompt.
We would recommend the Suncoast to those who have "done" the strip and are not afraid to drive around Las Vegas.
