The Westin is a great place to stay in Las Vegas if you want to have access to the craziness of the strip but also want to be able to retreat to a quiet, comfortable, serene hotel room.
The room furnishings were, as suggested above, serene and lovely, with a great view of the city. The restaurant hotel was fairly good --- featuring a French chef whose creations tended to look just a little better than they tasted -- in a attractive ambiance of muted colors. If you must gamble in your hotel, they do have a relatively small (for Vegas) gambling area in the lobby. They permit dogs, with a fee, and it is easy to walk your dog on the hotel grounds and in the area (they have a small dog run -- really small -- near the parking area). The heart of the strip is just a short walk away -- so, for example, you can walk to see the Cirque de Soleil show at the Venetian and not have to worry about parking.
When the noise and lights of the strip overload you, it's nice to be able to return to the relative quiet of the Westin. The spa treatments were sufficiently expensive, however, that I did not try them.
