After having to give Egypt a miss on our round the world tour, we decided to stay at the Luxor in Vegas - kitcsh we know, but we thought - it's Vegas! Upon arrival we were bombarded with sales staff trying to get us to buy ticktets to shows etc, we knew straight away it was a scam and that the price of these tickets were above and beyond the actual cost. We then had to stand in the check in line for over an hour and when we finally reached 'check in' we were told that there were no non-smoking suites available so we had to settle for a non-smoking normal hotel room in the pyramid. The room itself was clean, a little dated, but clean. The hallways were disgusting, torn carpet, flaking wallpaper, stench of cigarettes (which wafts up from the casino area below) and dirty dishes outside of most rooms. For what we paid (AU$240) a night we were quite disapointed. The pool area is beautiful and well maintained, although there were a lot of unsupervised children running around, splashing etc which was very very annoying. Even though the hotel is a little out of the action, we found getting to the other casino's easy enough via monorails, walkways and the Strip itself. We are planning to go again, however will opt to stay at either Mandalay Bay (gorgeous), Cesars Palace or the Venetian which we think are the three best casino's in Vegas.
