We just returned from a long weekend in Las Vegas and stayed at the Luxor. The hotel has by far the best design and layout of all on the strip, but the actual guest rooms were a disappointment. We found the beds to be extremely hard and could feel springs poking through. The pillows were flat as pancakes and the beds are not dressed with a fitted sheet so if you move at all you'll find yourself sleeping on the bare mattress.
We were startled to find that the fitness center onsite is not included in your stay, but is $10 per day per user. No thanks.
The food at the breakfast buffet was wonderful; however, on Saturdays and Sundays the price increases $6 per person because mimosas are included. You cannot choose non-alcoholic breakfast as we found out once we reached the front of the line. The woman at the register was rather sarcastic when we asked and told us to read the sign (which listed both rates). She made sure to tell us that the mimosa is complimentary. Since when does extra $ for something mean it's complimentary? Whatever, we went elsewhere.
The other heads-up I'd like to share is to not waste time or money seeing the Criss Angel show. You only see about five magic tricks and the rest of the two hours is filled up with people performing a poorly choreographed dance routine in strange costumes.
We had a wonderful time on our trip, but wanted to share our experience to help others decide where to stay. Enjoy!

“No thought for paying customers”

Oh Boy where do I start:-

Overpaid for this hotel, don't pre-pay for a room check prices weekly before you go - you could get it half price!

Rooms not ready when we arrived at 4.30pm. Booked interconnecting bedrooms, but on the first night had to sleep on another floor to my elderly mother and 4 year old daughter.

CLOSED Swimming Pools for 3 days due to Private Function at the pool for Criss Angel without telling any of the paying customers until the day of closure! Told by staff to use pool at another hotel which was quite a walk!

KEPT AWAKE TILL 3AM ON THE NIGHT OF THE PRIVATE FUNCTION AT THE POOL - JUST NO THOUGHT FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER!

LIFEGUARDS asleep on the job!

Housekeeping done all times of the day/night sometimes 10pm!

Male guests approached by hookers in the hotel corridors/lifts looking for business.

Gone downhill alot since we stayed there 5 years ago. This would have been a good hotel but for the problems, my advice is check with the hotel before you book for pool closures, private functions etc.

“Disappointed...”

Like all of the hotels in Las Vegas, it was not easy to navigate. We had a very early flight from MI, so we were starving for lunch by 10am. We asked an employee (or so we thought) what was open for lunch. She directed us to a desk and said the girl behind the desk will give us food vouchers. We found ourselves in the midst of a sales pitch for a timeshare tour in exchange for vouchers (food, gambling $, shows). We agreed to go since we were told there was no obligation to buy and it would only take about 2 hours. We got what we were promised in the end, although the timeshare pitch was a total scam. These sales people in the hotel/casino are EVERYWHERE and we were approached several times a day. It was annoying.
When we arrived to our room in the West Tower, I noticed that our sheets were stained YELLOW. I called housekeeping to bring new sheets, and they promptly delivered 3 sheets. One of those sheets was also stained yellow.
The tiled floors outside the elevator on our floor were dirty and spotted. The jacuzzi in the spa had grime around the edges and there was a nasty bandaid on the floor near the jacuzzi. They have 2 spa attendants that were sitting around.
When we checked out through the TV, there was a $2/day phone surcharge. I don't understand why this isn't automatically included in the cost of the hotel room. We didn't use the phones at all, except to listen to messages that the hotel left! They removed the charges for us.

The good: The staff was accommodating. Every time we called housekeeping (for towels, sheets), they arrived promptly. The room itself was fine considering that the intention is to be out of it most of the time. Spa and pool staff were nice (but a bit lazy). We enjoyed the Bodies Exhibit, location on the strip, and the connection with Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay.

“Good Value”

Luxor Las Vegas

We stayed at the Luxor in the Tower rooms for three nights in late September. All in all, it was fine. The room was pretty clean and in good shape. It was a decent size for two people. The pool was very nice and the hotel decor was interesting.

On the other hand, the rooms were a little dark like others on here have said. The bed was very low and not the most comfortable thing. I rented a refrigerator at $15 a day so we could have cold drinks. I wish it was included in the room though. I bought a case of water across the street at the gas station for a reasonable sum of money. The Towers are set up a little weird. The walk to them is through very narrow corridors with lots of 90 degree angles. It felt like we were always turning and bumping into people. Also be aware that the fast food restaurants in the hotel are a little pricey.

The nightly rate was very reasonable compared to other hotels on the strip. If you stay here, definitely eat at the buffet. It is priced well and very worth it.

If you do not like walking or have health concerns, you may not want to stay here if you plan on walking to the other casinos. It is a good walk to many of them. If not, it is a nice place. I would stay here again.

“A good place to stay”

Luxor Las Vegas

Nov 6, 2008

I stayed at the Luxor for 3 nights at the end of October and it was a fairly nice place to stay. I booked a pyramid room, and at check in I politely asked the woman if any tower rooms were available. She said there were, and that it would be $20 a night, except Friday would be $30. I agreed, and she walked to the side for a second, then told me her manager said the upgrade would be free. It was nice to not have to pay, even though the upgrade price wasn't expensive. The walk to the tower rooms is a bit long, but worth it. The pyramid rooms are in the casino, and are probably loud since everything is literally outside the rooms, and construction is going on near the lobby. My room in the tower was nice, it was clean, bright, roomy, and had a view of the area off the strip. The beds were a little too hard, and there aren't coffee makers in the room, meaning you have to buy coffee at one of the many Starbucks in the hotel, or at the Pyramid Cafe. Other than that however the hotel itself is nice. It's located bewteen the Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur at the South end of the strip. It's not that far to walk to NY NY, or any hotel near there. Walking to other places like the Venetian, or hotels in that area of the strip is a walk, but the strip is 4 miles long! It's a walk no matter where you're staying if you want to see the entire strip, or nearly the entire strip.
