I was impressed with the fact this was a "non-smoking" motel as I remember previous visits to Springfield were not that pleasant as seemingly everyone smoked in that town. So I called and made a reservation (which they said I needed a 48 hour notice to cancel, unlike other motels allowing me to cancel the same day just prior to 6:00 PM), well, okay, that was fine. Afterall, it was a non smoking motel with an "expanded" hot breakfast menu.
I wasn't impressed with this old motel. The room was just okay, nothing fancy. Anyhow the rate was under $70 within my company's guidelines. The pool was outside and full of kids, so I avoided the pool. Thankfully there was a Bob Evans within walking distance and it was completely non smoking. In fact there were numerous motels within walking distance I could have gone to instead.
On the morning I was to check out I walked to my car (in front of the room) and loaded my luggage. While doing so I noticed some people sitting outside. That did not bother me until I realized I had to walk pass them (and their smoke) while going to get the "expanded" hot breakfast. The breakfast consisted of "scrambled eggs" (I never saw eggs made like a pancake before) and sausage. No fruit. No orange juice. (They had "lemonade tang" as their "juice.") There wasn't a whole lot to choose from. This was a disappointment. And I had to carry my food back to my room and go outside by the smoking employees who were waiting to go to work.
I could hardly believe it. They promoted themselves as a "non smoking" motel. I will never return. Most motels have non smoking rooms, and the common areas are non smoking anyhow. I run into this problem all the time, was very surprised to run into it at this "non smoking" motel.
