You'd be better off sleeping in your car. I stayed at an EXCELLENT Super 8 Hotel in Cherokee, Iowa in 6/2007, and figured I would find the same level of quality here. Not even close.
The bathroom door in the room was hollow and had about a 2.5" hole smashed into one side of it. There was NO HOT WATER on the morning of checkout between 6-9AM (credited $10), and I talked to numerous guests who confirmed that. There were also cigarette ashes on the carpet by the nightstand, cigarette burns on one of the worn bedspreads, and numerous pock marks in 1 wall that looked like someone had shot BB's at it. The beds slept well, however.
The hotel was completely full due to a festival in town. The morning of checkout, there was ONE person who appeared to be trying to cover both the Front Desk and Continental Breakfast duties. She was doing an EXCELLENT JOB (no criticism there), but she was obviously overwhelmed by most of the hotel guests checking out and due to that, the breakfast offerings suffered. There were 2 types of donuts offered, both of them still in the bag from the grocery store next door and the pastries were all individually wrapped, revealing that they weren't fresh There was little coffee available as there was no one making it (to do the front desk debacle), and the eating area was very small and connected to the front desk area so between diners and guests checking out, it was very crowded.
(The young woman at the front desk told us she had alerted the manager the night before of the massive checkouts that would be happening but the Manager said that SHE WAS NOT GOING TO COME IN AND HELP REGARDLESS and she didn't, either).
The main landing between the breakfast area and the stairs to the second floor was filthy and stained, and they had been there for awhile. The front parking area (very small, larger lot on side) was very sandy, not good for the 8-10 motorcycles parked there.
I will not be staying here again.
