While this stay, as past stays at Brown's, have been nearly ideal, I do want to point out a couple of issues. One was smokers. There's no smoking in the Inn but guests can smoke on their balconies. Unfortunately, my wife and I had smokers on either side of us and it severely limited our use of the balcony (the view is one of the major attractions to staying there).

The other issue I had was with the restaurant. My wife states that her scallops were wonderful, however, the half chicken I got was small and dry as an old shoe. It had to have been cooked earlier in the day then dry roasted to an arid imperfection. Blah. The desserts were great and while breakfast was good, it was over priced.

“The BEST all around!”

My husband and I went up for a long weekend for my birthday and had the best time! We stayed on the 3rd floor of the motel and found the room was larger than we thought it'd be. The king bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, the balcony and seating were a plus, and everything was really clean. We slept very well and loved watching the boats on the harbor right from our room!

They have a restaurant on the main level overlooking the harbor. The food is the best we've found all around town! The blueberries are the best here and they make awesome waffles for breakfast! Dinner is our favorite here, I think. My husband is a big lobster fan, and is always pleased with it...he says it's the best lobster he's ever had. He also loves the clam steamers and lobster bisque. I don't eat shellfish, but I still have more than enough to choose from and always leave happy and full! The salmon and tuna are good, the beef filet is incredible, and they have a great turkey dinner with all the trimmings that I've heard all the locals come out for. My favorite is probably the prime rib served with a popover (which I learned is like a big roll, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, great for sopping up au jous). Desserts are amazing! First I had the chocolate lava cake, then tried the blueberry pie which I highly recommend with ice cream!

One of my favorite things was to sit on the dock in a rocking chair and watch the boats come and go as the sun sets. The view is definitely the best anywhere, and is amazing from about anywhere you are. In your room, in the restaurant, or right on the marina, it's all breathtaking! The staff is very accomadating as well, and really friendly. It's a family-owned business, and you can tell. You don't feel like a number here, the staff always greets you pleasantly and like to know you're having a good time and do what they can to make sure you're comfortable and happy. They're definitely going the extra mile to make that happen! I know my husband and I fell in love with the beauty of Maine and with the homey feel here at Brown's Wharf Inn. The only thing I didn't like about my birthday in Maine, was that we couldn't stay longer! We had the best time and loved our stay at Brown's! We'll definitely come back, and when we do, we'll make sure we don't go anywhere but here!

“A Wonderful Experience!!”

Easy to find with plenty of parking. We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly agent. We booked a month ahead but all they had with a king bed was a cove side room. I recommend you book early to get a room on the front side and get one on the 2nd or 3rd floor for the best views. Our view from the side was still great (see photos). This motel has been around many years but they keep it in like new condition and very clean. Very powerful shower! Free coffee and newspapers in the lounge in the AM.

We ate dinner there and it was good. Great prices on wine. We also at at the Lobster Dock and The Lobster Wharf and both were great but they are self service and I would recommend them for lunch rather than dinner.

The walk to town was fun and took about 20 minutes. The changes in the tide are about 8 feet so the harbor can have a much different look high tide vs. low.

Try the Candlepin Bowling in town!! You will feel like you're in the 1940's.

We can't wait to come back!

“Lovely Views”

We had a nice weekend at Brown's Wharf Inn. Yes, it is just a motel, but it is in a nice location, and is very nicely kept. I agree, the floors/rugs are filthy...our feet were black after walking on them for about 5 minutes. But everything else is neat and clean. We stayed on the cove side because that is all that was available. It was very nice, but keep in mind that you have to listen to the people on the PA system at the Lobster restaurant next door call out orders all day and night. We just blocked it out but it deserves mentioning. You can also go and sit on the common deck along the front side. They have nice rocking chairs, but there are way too few of them. It's a great spot to sit and watch the busy harbor. It was nice that they have free (very weak) coffee, but at the price they are charging for a motel room, they should include at least a continental breakfast. We could have stayed at a waterfront B&B for less and could have had a full breakfast. It's a nice walk to town, but be careful as the sidewalks change sides and are a little "wacky" (you have to see it to get it). The cars also go flying by on that winding street. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, we would recommend it, and if there was no where else available we would not hesitate to stay again. As always, we just love BBH.

“Very nice place to stay”

Brown's Wharf Inn

After reading the reviews, and frankly, being the first place that had an opening and would allow us to stay one night we booked at Browns. They have a policy of two night minium, but since our place was rented both Friday and Sunday, they gave us a waiver. Of course, this was smart business, but I also credit the friendly staff who bothered to look.

The views are great, the verandas are very nice, but you are right next to your neighbors. I should mention it is a 3 story building and no elevator. There is a ramp to the first floor out of the parking lot for handicap. Price was 203 with tax which for Boothbay in the middle of August is acceptable.

Room was clean, floor was indoor outdoor carpet but clean and not stained. The towels are very skimpy, and a little bit worn, but clean. There is a refrigerator.

The place is on the quieter side of the harbor. There is a shuttle service that is free but ends at 5. The walk is not bad and there is a pedestrian bridge that cuts a bit off, but for older folks who want to be in the shop and restaurant rich section you might pick the other side. We came by motorcycle and when we went for dinner planning to walk (no drink and ride) it was raining. We took a cab there, walked back.
We ate breakfast there, not an inventive menue but my wife had very good blueberry french toast (but $1.70 for real maple syrup) and the waitress cheerfully took my lobster from the night before and had an omelette made with same and some chedder cheese at a reasonable price. We heard from others that dinner is good, but standard seafood menue.

On the same side is the Lobster Dock who had a throwdown on crab cakes with Bobby Flay. You must eat these crab cakes!
