“Lovely surprise”

Renaissance Chicago Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Cincinnati, OH
Aug 22, 2008

This hotel was a complete surprise for me - in a great way. Being a Platinum Marriott Rewards member, we were upgraded to a suite overlooking the Chicago River, looking towards Michigan Blvd. It was magnificent! The service was excellent, the Club Lounge was well-staff and well-stocked. I would return here in a heartbeat! Hard to beat the central location too!!

“Excellent hotel property in Chicago”

Renaissance Chicago Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Honolulu, Hawaii

Great value for what you get. Clean and comfortable rooms. I travel on business and this property is in a great location in Chicago. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had all the amenities you need including vanity mirror, hair dryer, nice soaps and shampoo. TV was the standard hotel variety. Ventilation system worked great but a little noisy when the fan was blowing. I would highly recommend this property to both business travelers and tourists.

“Renaissance is my favorite hotel in Chicago”

Renaissance Chicago Hotel

5 of 5 stars
New Jersey
Aug 8, 2008

I've been going to Chicago on business for about a year, and I always try to stay at the Renaissance in Chicago downtown with budget permitting. I have a frequent guess status which is a plus. But the things that I like about it over the sister hotels and even the Starwood hotels in the same area are:

1) very good pool and workout area that was free (Starwood charges a fee);

2) great, clean, updated, modern rooms;

3) staff was always friendly;

4) lobby was beautiful;

5) food at club lounge is great; and

6) free shoe shine service.

The Renaissance is my favorite hotel in Chicago.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — I liked the "free" amenities - club lounge access as a gold member, free shoe shine service, updated and modern furnishings.
    • Disliked — The prices are a little too high during the high season.

“Don't Stay at this Hotel!!!”

What a disaster!!!
Avoid this hotel. It's supposed to be one of the best in Chicago, but I'm proof that this place is not all that it's cracked up to be. We ended up cancelling our reservation and having to move to the Omni Hotel on Michigan Ave. Thank goodness because the service at the Renaissance was a joke. We arrived after check in time, only to find out that our room was not available. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the lobby while my husband tried to get some answers from the front desk. He even spoke to the manager. No one seemed to care that I was spending my 40th birthday in their lobby and missed our dinner reservation. The lobby is gorgeous, but the people are rude and very difficult to work with. We just wanted a room with 2 queen beds, which we reserved...but it was not going to happen, even though we were told that our room was being cleaned...for 2 1/2 hours. RIGHT!! Our family strongly recommends that you look past this hotel...it's not worth the stress. You would be treated better at a Super 8!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Honestly...the lobby was ok....but really, NOTHING.
    • Disliked — The service was horrendous!!

“Nice surpise, great overall”

Renaissance Chicago Hotel

Jul 21, 2008

Have stayed at some Renaissance properties that were not that great in the past. This property was fantastic - rooms are big, great views of the river, walking distance to various places, friendly staff and great food.
