Because it was low season, we arrived without reservations. Although the restaurant was empty, they seated us in the bar. When we left an hour later, the restaurant was still empty. Food was good, but with prices and attitude I can do without. $4 sharing charge for salad? I don't think so.

My husband and I felt exactly like the previous reviewer. We also went there for dinner on our last night (3/18/07). I called for 5:30 p.m. reservations. We arrived around 5:20 p.m. and the only people at the restaurant were a few waiters standing around the front and a hostess. I gave the hostess our name and she walks us to a table on the other side of the restaurant. Little did we realize at the time but she sat us right behind the restrooms. (There is a small curved wall which blocked the entrance so we didn't realize it until shortly
after we were seated.) My husband did not want me to say anything so we stayed there. We were the only people in the restaurant for about 20 minutes before a family of three came in. They did not appear to have reservations but another hostess seats them at a table at the front of the restaurant near a window. Within the next half hour, maybe another 7-8 people came in and were also seated at the front of the restaurant. So now my husband and I are the only people sitting at the opposite side of the restaurant by ourselves. Talk about feeling like second class citizens!!

As far as the food, I thought it was terrible. My husband decided to try a tortellini soup they had. All I can say is that it looked like water with parsley and some tortellini floating in it. It was absolutely tasteless. If that wasn't bad enough, the waiter comes over to tell us it will be a little longer for our food because the chef got confused and instead of cooking one chicken parm and one veal parm, he made two veal. I can't see how anyone could mix up such
a simple selection considering we were the only two in the restaurant
when our order was placed. (What would happen if they ever got a crowd.) The sauce was not very good and I thought my chicken tasted like a frozen piece of coated chicken. In fact, part of the chicken was even cold. Needless to say, we didn't even consider having dessert. I can say, though, that our waiter was fine. I will, however, NEVER EVER, go back to that restaurant and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. After spending two weeks in Florida, that meal was not only expensive, but THE WORST meal we've had at any restaurant in ages.

My wife and I were looking for an upscale resturant for our last evening on the island. I have never in my life had such terrible service - we were practically ignored the whole time were there, even had to ask 2 or 3 times for our bill. The food was ok, but a bit over priced for what was served. This was the only time ever in my life that I left a zero tip.

Our family has been to Sanibel 6-7 times over the past 5 years and always look forward to at least one dinner at La Vigna. Dinner can be casual, a salad and pizzza, or more serious gourmet fare, veal, seafood, many pastas. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. Desserts are wonderful. We always have a good experience at La Vigna.
