This was our 5th trip to Disney World and we have stayed onsite for all. This was our first stay at the Yacht Club (we have stayed at the Beach Club, Beach Club Villas, Contemporary Resort and Port Orleans Riverside). I have to say that the Yacht Club is our favorite so far.
We were upgraded to a water view room, which was in a great location. We were in room 4075. We had a view of not only the lagoon, and wedding gazebo, we could also see Illuminations from our balcony. What a treat.
Check in was a breeze. Took less than 5 minutes. The staff at the front desk were courteous and helpful.
We used the Magical Express service, which really is convenient. You put the supplied yellow tags on your luggage at your home airport and magically your bags appear in your hotel room a couple hours after you check in. We did not use the transportation part of the service because we needed to have a rental car.
The lobby of the Yacht Club is very classy, and not like a typical Disney resort. Its calm, relaxing and we liked it. Our room was spotless upon arrival. We thought it was very pretty, too. The beds were very comfortable, and the crisp sheets were nice. The room had two queen beds, and a chair w/ottoman. There was a nice desk, and a dresser with a tv on it and a nice empty frig for our use. Then there is another dresser by the closet/bathroom, which was nice. The bathroom area is great because there are two sinks, with plenty of counterspace that is separate from the toilet/shower/tub area. So it was easy for more than one person to get ready at once.
The room could use updating, but it was just fine. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We really liked having the balcony, and our view was wonderful. Even though it was raining most of the time, we'd sit out there and enjoy the view.
The pool area is spectacular. We were there during hurricane Fay, or should I say Tropical Storm Fay which dumped INCHES and INCHES of rain on the area. So we didnt get much use out of the pool. It was raining 95% of the time. We did get to go sit in the jacuzzi one evening, and we played some ping pong there by the beach. Most of the time, however, it was just miserable out so we never went down to swim. The pool has so many areas, there is a sandy area with a very shallow pool for the little ones, a lazy river area, a big water slide, lots of other pool areas for swimming. We've been there in the past and the pool does get quite crowded and sometimes its hard to find chairs. They do ask for resort ID at this pool, because its probably the best one in all of the disney resorts.
There is another pool on the edge of the resort, which is next to the larger laundry room. Because of the weather, we didnt get to enjoy that one either. But I did use the laundry room. It was $2 to wash and another $2 to dry. Believe it or not the dryer actually dried our clothes in one use. They sell soap and stuff in there, but we brought our own. I dont know how much the soap costs.
Our room was cleaned very nicely each day. We had Bertha as our housekeeper and she was very pleasant. We left her a tip each day, and I think she really appreciated it. She left us little towel animals, and we always had restocked items.
We used bell services a couple times (we had a pkg delivered) and they were always prompt and friendly. I have no complaints at all re: the staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Even the people who worked in the little store were overly helpful.
The only downside to this resort: the buses. They are slow! Very slow! You have to share with the Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin. This makes for some packed buses and long waits. Standing in the rain for 20 minutes is NOT fun. Then the bus finally comes and its full! This is one thing that they should change.
If you stay here, or even if you dont. Go eat at Beaches & Cream. Its right out by the pool. They have great burgers, fries, onion rings and ICE CREAM! We loved it. We ate there twice. Once for lunch and another time for dessert.
I will definitely stay here again. Loved the resort. Got great service from everyone we encountered. If they ever get the bus thing figured out, this would be the perfect place!
