Just returned from my family's annual visit to Walt Disney World. I've gone about 10 times over the years every year and usually enjoy my stay. After staying at the Grand Floridian for the past few years, my mom and I decided to stay and try something different with The Yacht & Beach Club. Boy was this a mistake. This hotel is completely overrated. Now it was really hot and humid, that's not the resort's fault but the air conditioning in nearly every section of the hotel is turned on far too high. I even tried to make it lower but it was impossible. I got a bad cold from the air conditioning being on too high.
The staff is very helpful but housekeeping needs some work. First off, they don't do anything but give you fresh towels every day, toilitries and make the bed. They certainly don't vaccum every day or clean the bathroom sinks, because my mother had to clean it every single day.
The Yacht Club Galley to eat breakfast in every day was horrible. The eggs were runny, the bread over-toasted. The service in the restaurant was ridiculous. Charging you 99 cents for cheese in eggs is silly. You're paying good money. Compared to the Grand Floridian this hotel is horrible. It's considered a Deluxe hotel. The same amentities should be provided for all. But it's not. The rooms are not as big as the Grand Floridian.
Now onto the WORST part of this hotel which is the transportation situation. The guides basically tell you that you are "oh so close to Epcot and Hollywood studios, just a short walk/boat ride away." Well let me tell you the truth: It's not that great. Yes you can walk but when it's 90+ out, walking even half a mile is tough especially after a long day. The boat is HORRIBLE. You have to wait 30 plus minutes to get a boat ride back and then they pick up about 5 hotels along the way at times on the bus and boats. It's overrated about the location and that is my biggest complaint. At the Grand Floridian you can take a boat, the monorail or bus. Why can't the Yacht Club instill the same transportation options to Epcot and the Hollywood Studios? The boats are a snail's pace to the parks. And given Florida's weather to me taking a boat in a thunderstorm is ludicrous. My mother walks 10 miles a day and I do a good amount of exercise. If you want to walk, this hotel is for you. If like sharing a bus though with five other hotels then stay here. Don't stay here if you want quality transportation.
The best part of this hotel is the pool. But to have to PAY to rent a tube is ridiculous. $3 for an hour of floating around in a pool? Silly. Plus if you are a parent and your child brings their own floatation devices, don't expect to be allowed to take that with you in the pool. One lifeguard insisted that a mother take her child out with her own flotation device because it wasn't part of the Yacht club. Ridiculous. The pool is well looked after but why do we have to show ID for a pool we pay to stay at? Silly, ridiculous, you're not special, you're treated like a child.
Beaches & Cream? Don't ever get ice cream there, the line is ridiculously long for just a 5 dollar milkshake that is not even that great. You can't carry food out and Hurricane Hannah's has pre-made sandwiches that have absolutely no taste. Don't stay here.
We won't stay here again. The Grand Floridian is so much better for: the cost, the transportation and the food. The best Disney resort is the Grand Floridian. I've learned my lesson.
