Hotel is not worth the money. I know you get what your pay for but please 99.00 should get you a decent /clean bathroom.. I realize the rooms are small in hot spots but this was ridiculous and I realize that you dont want to spend a lot of time in your room when you are on vacation, but really the place should at least be decent enough to take a shower.. after spending 4 hours contemplating leaving. guess what we left. I am happy to say I left. lost my first night but did not ruin my weekend. I really could not rough it out... The air condition barely worked.. although there was a ceiling fan. TV oh well I guess when you are on vacation you are not supposed to want to look at TV cause they went way back and put the 10 inch TV in the ceiling - like being in the hospital.. but that was because guess what... no space for a table to put it on.. I just want to say please Cavalier -- REMODEL SOON or SHUT DOWN

We stayed here for a weekend to visit friends and its true you get what you pay for!! We did not have any problems during check in but the elevator is small and creepy! We used the stairs most of the time since we were on the 2nd floor. The carpet in the hallway was mildewy and the hallway was dark. The room was very small. The hotel is in a decent location on Ocean drive. The day we checked out it was raining really bad..the hotel lobby was leaking eveywhere and they were trying to contain it with towels. We wanted to leave our bags to get lunch and come back but we didn't know how wet it would be in the basement where they store bags so we decided to keep them with us....

“O.K room but Great location”

Cavalier Hotel

I stayed at the cavalier hotel in may of 2006 with a friend the arrival was ok the check in attendant was not really friendly but she got the job done, the bar was great happy hour all day it seemed like, the elevator was alittle small and scary but we made it. The room itself was very small even for two people the bathroom was smaller than that but it was clean the hallway carpet on the third floor reeked of mildew but with wet feet on it all day i guess you have to expect it. To be able to walk right out the door and cross the street and be on the beach was the best we didn't eat at the hotel but every time we came in and out we saw other hotel guest enjoying it I have to admit that it did look delicious.

“get what you pay for!”

Cavalier Hotel

3 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Apr 30, 2007

I just got back from my stay in South Beach at the Cavalier Hotel. We were a little intimidated to go inside for check in because the crowd in the outdoor restaurant was rowdy and a bit "ghetto." The check in desk is tiny and partially hidden by a big plant and the woman could barely speak English and seemed a little slow. Thank God my boyfriend is Spanish but even when they spoke in Spanish, she seemed dumber than a door knob. Although she was nice, she did not seem to know what she was doing and check in took about 20 minutes when all she had to do was give us the key and take my credit card for accidentals. The elevator going up is a little scary, but it worked so no complaints and all the hallways are painted lavender purple but the walls are lumpy and hallways are a little dim and may scare some. The room was as smaller than expected. You walk in and there are two full size beds (they'll tell you that all the beds are queens but they are actually full), on the right is a TINY bathroom in which there is barely any room to open and close the door. That's basically it. What I will say is that the beds and pillows were surprisingly REALLY comfortable and the room temperature was always perfect. it was the perfect place to stay for those who just need a place to sleep and shower. The room was relatively clean although there was some dust and 2 strands of hair on the bathroom floor that housekeeping probably overlooked. Our fire alarm was beeping one night and we called downstairs to see if they would be able to fix it but it took forever to get a person on the phone and she did not seem to understand the situation. We managed to fix the alarm on our own. Overall, the hotel has a pretty good location, decent price, relatively clean and comfortable but dont have high expectation. If you have a problem with your room, I'm assuming it would be difficult to get it switched or fixed since the hote staff is limited to the front desk person and maybe a manager. It's a decent place but dont go there expecting too much.
