The Trump is a hotel that oozes class and charges accordingly. Everything is elegant, artsy and immaculate. The lobby is gorgeous, the hallways feature original art, the rooms are beautifully appointed with luxury baths. We got an upgrade to a junior suite, with sink, mini fridge and microwave. A free buffet breakfast with free NY Times and WSJ was spectacular, with beautiful fresh fruit, homemade smoked salmon and exotic teas in addition to the usual breakfast food stations. A soup to nuts gym provided free bottled water and lacked for nothing in the way of equipment. There is also a pricey spa and a couple of "nothing special" shops. The service staff have evidently been instructed to always greet the guests and ask how they are doing. Nobody likes surly staff, but the other extreme can also get annoying really fast. Internet access is an additional $10/day, which is really a ripoff at these rates. We had a great big TV in the room but the remote only worked sporadically and the selection of channels was just pitiful, with no movie channels (movies were extra, of course). The pool staff was very helpful, but the pools themselves were just ok. The pool bar and snack bar (also outrageously priced) did a brisk business. One of the hot tubs didn't work and the beach level was down two flights of stairs. Clientele was mostly business people (there were several conferences on site) and some chic younger people, including a lot of Europeans, some with small children. Although the Trump Sonesta is a very attractive and well run hotel, with some nice amenities, we felt it was a mite pretentious and just not a good value.
