Just back from four nights stay at the Azul Key West. I chose the hotel based on research from TripAdvisor.com. My wife and I were celebrating our first anniversary and our first visit to Key West.
I contacted Tracy two days before we arrived to arrange our dinner our first night. I gave her simple instructions: outdoor seafood in clear view of the fireworks (it was July 4). We arrived in time to get a shower and dressed for our dinner. The night was magical! She had booked a table at the Strip House at the Reach Resort, sister property to the Casa Marina Resort. We had a bottle of wine and a huge fresh seafood "plateau" as an appetizer. Even though we ordered entrees, we started eating our appetizer, left our table to get a better view of the fireworks, and came back, we discovered we were full. The waiter canceled our entrees without a blink. Excellent evening!
A few things about the property, because it definitely is not for everyone: do not book the Aria suite if you are not spry! It is up two narrow spiral staircases! It was not a problem for my wife and I, but could be a huge issue for people who are not physically fit. (there are other rooms that would suffice nicely). I had read one review that complained about the bathroom and I can see if that you are a large or even tall person you might feel cramped. My wife and I saw it as quaint. We blew a fuse with our hairdryer (the house is old!) but Dominic told me by phone where to find the fuse box and all was well again.
So, if you realize you are not going to the Westin resort with a huge marble bathroom and lots of noisy neighbors, keeping in mind the personal touches that abound (linens, pool towels, aveda products), this Hotel is as fabulous as everyone else here has said.
Highlights: the breakfast is a work of art and delicious, location is close enough to walk but far enough for peace and quiet, pool is nice and refreshing, this place is a wonderful way to visit Key West!
Thanks Dominic!
