“Great place for the price”

We stayed at the Truman hotel the weekend before christmas.

We chose Truman because we were on a budget and just wanted a comfortable no frills hotel. It was our first trip to key west and we spent only a minimum amount of time in our rooms but loved it nevertheless.

The hotel is newly renovated and all the rooms look brand new.
Specially worth talking about is the bathroom with nice glass tiles and walk in shower. The rooms also have a granite top vanity with a vessel sink.

The room we stayed in was not big but was good for just the two of us. The bed was comfortable and clean and the housekeeping service was excellent.

Free internet requires that you bring your own cable(luckily for us we did! ).

Complimentary breakfast is offered every day at the courtyard. The breakfast is very basic with just a few croissants and pastry, orange juice and coffee.

In all, a great place for couples to stay if you are on a budget and are not looking for all the conveniences offered by a full-fledged hotel(like a pool, room service etc).

“Nice rooms, small beds, horrible front desk”

We stayed here for 4 nights over New Year's Eve. The hotel is brand new and has a nice very modern design. It is so brand new that many things are not yet complete, such as the pool or a warm welcome from the front desk. I found the guy very rude on a number of occasions, which is a pity since everyone else in Key West was so nice and friendly.

It is centrally located, only a block or so off Duval. That said, I would not have minded staying somewhere less central, because Key West is very small anyway and very easy to get around.

Although it is advertised as a hotel, it is more like a guesthouse, since they don't seem to have most of the hotel amenities.

It is worth noting that if you are on the second floor, you will have to carry your bags up the stairs. There is no elevator and they do not offer to help. We asked for help with our bags and the guy at the front desk grudgingly agreed but only carried one bag while the we got the rest ourselves.

The hotel was very clean and the housekeeping staff was excellent. I really liked the large walk in showers. The pillows and linens were very nice, but they used cheap bedspreads instead of duvets which are much more sanitary.

There are no safes in the rooms, which is a problem if you don't feel comfortable leaving your valuables lying around. I asked to use the hotel safe, but there was none. There are also no irons in the room. We had to borrow the iron from the front desk - going downstairs to pick it up and return it each time. Also, they have internet access but it is not wireless - again, the cables are not in the room. They only had one cable for the whole hotel which we had go downstairs to borrow.

Bottom line: Looks like it would be a fantastic property, but the missing conveniences and rude front desk staff ruin the experience. I'll stay elsewhere on my next trip to Key West.

“Very nice little hotel”

I stayed at the Truman Hotel from for two nights (Sat. & Sun). It was the Carribean Pirate's Festival and also a weekend, so getting a reasonably priced room was a little tough. I finally booked Truman after reading (mixed) reviews at Tripadvisor and making tons of phone calls to all inexpensive hotels... It turned out to be a very nice choice!!! Room (I stayed at 107) was incredibly clean and *tastefully* decorated. Free internet (better bring your own cable, but I borrowed the cable from the registration desk), free bottle of water, free chocolate, free parking, very simple but free breakfast. The bed was very comfortable. My only complain is that water pressure at bathroom could have been larger...

Location: it is close to the south end of the town, which means it's a 15 mintues' walk to Malcoy Square and historical port ). But it's a very enjoyable walk. The hotel is 1.5 block from Duval, and close to the fabulous restaurants at Bahama Village.

People there are friendly. Bill, the old gentleman at the registration desk, offered lots of help and seemed to have a lot of stories to tell about this small town.. Bill helped me book the Tortugas ferry ticket just one night before the trip, and I had a great time at the Tortugas NP thanks to Bill.. I am pretty sure there are many other good lodging choices around old town too, but Truman in my opinion is one of those better choices:)

“Such a nice hotel!!!”

Oh, my God!! I can't believe my luck. I randomly booked the hotel since my normal stay was asking outrateous rates during the Peterson Poker Run. I took my wife and she was amazed at how nice a place I took her to. *patting myself on the back*

If you're going to Key West during a major event, all hotels will upcharge. I paid $269.00 per night. Contact them from their website for current rates and to see pictures of a room, although the pictures don't really do it justice. For example, they show two pillows on the bed although each bed had at least six and the room colors aren't as brilliant as in person. Rooms are brand new and resemble a boutique hotel's. Plasma tv and there is the most awesome shower. Very comfortable mattress, too. The breakfast is outside in the court yard and consists of homemade-tasting pastries and fresh fruit. Great orange juice and coffee. High speed internet is available by the desk...bring your own cable cord, though, as the office only had one. Not a lot of storage space, as the only negative.

It's located one block from Duval where there is a ticket office for the tram. We were easily able to walk from Mallory Square back to the hotel so you may not need it unless you want a narrated tour.

“A little expensive, but excellent room”

We booked into the hotel at the last minute and think we were stung a little on the price. $270 plus tax. (Having read the prices that other guests have paid previously). However it was labour weekend so most hotels were booked.

Apart from the price, the hotel is excellent and the rooms like something from a magazine.

Looking at other reviews it is clear the hotel has undergone a major make over, and all credit to whoever did it, as it really is 5*

We found the staff very friendly and helpful, and overall would recommend without hesitation.
