I stayed at the Truman Hotel from for two nights (Sat. & Sun). It was the Carribean Pirate's Festival and also a weekend, so getting a reasonably priced room was a little tough. I finally booked Truman after reading (mixed) reviews at Tripadvisor and making tons of phone calls to all inexpensive hotels... It turned out to be a very nice choice!!! Room (I stayed at 107) was incredibly clean and *tastefully* decorated. Free internet (better bring your own cable, but I borrowed the cable from the registration desk), free bottle of water, free chocolate, free parking, very simple but free breakfast. The bed was very comfortable. My only complain is that water pressure at bathroom could have been larger...
Location: it is close to the south end of the town, which means it's a 15 mintues' walk to Malcoy Square and historical port ). But it's a very enjoyable walk. The hotel is 1.5 block from Duval, and close to the fabulous restaurants at Bahama Village.
People there are friendly. Bill, the old gentleman at the registration desk, offered lots of help and seemed to have a lot of stories to tell about this small town.. Bill helped me book the Tortugas ferry ticket just one night before the trip, and I had a great time at the Tortugas NP thanks to Bill.. I am pretty sure there are many other good lodging choices around old town too, but Truman in my opinion is one of those better choices:)
