The two houses are right on a little beach (don't expect pristine beaches however). and are right next door to the southernmost hotels. You also need to use their check-in which is a bit weird...

The attention to detail is what set this hotel/B&B apart.The room was quite big and nicely decorated.

Location is also quite good, right on the end of Duval street, the quiet end that is. The loud end is only a few minutes walk away.

I stayed at La Mer Hotel for a week with my mother in July 2008. It was our first time visiting Key West and we had high expectations after reading the positive reviews of the hotel. We arrived in the mid-afternoon and check-in was a breeze - we were shown to our room and given a quick tour of the hotel and the adjoining Dewey House (the amenities are shared between the two) by Rhona - the guest services manager who made our stay perfect!
The hotel has a really quaint feeling to it being as small as it is but it still manages to have everything you could ever need. The spotless beach is right outside of the hotel and has plenty of loungers and umbrellas, as well as having the Southernmost Cafe there to tend to your thirst/hunger! The hotel is part of the Southernmost group so you can use their facilities too which is helpful is you prefer the pool to the ocean. Breakfast and afternoon tea are wonderful. Lovely fresh food - I've never looked forward to breakfast so much! The staff are great too.
The location may not suit some people as it is at the southernmost end of Duval Street, away from all of the bars and Mallory Square. Saying that, it is only a mile walk to Mallory Square, with plenty of shops and restaurants on the way. We were glad to be away from the noise of the bars, in a more peaceful area.
We completely fell in love with Key West and with La Mer Hotel. Hopefully we will be visiting again at some point and I would enthusiastically recommend you to do the same!!

We have stayed at all of the high end Hotels on Key West over the course of the past 3 years. Without a doubt the La Mer and Dewey House, a part of the Southermost Hotel Collection, is the best place on the island. We are hotel/restaurant owners and know the importance of quality customer service. It was so refreshing to actually find a hotel that has the guests personal satisfaction their first and foremost concern. We were warmly greated at the front desk by Dexter and our check in was smooth and fast. They gave us our keys and there was a lovely young lady named "Sam" waiting to show us to our room and offered to give us a tour of the property. We were very familiar with the area and had prior dinner plans with friends on the island so we declined the offer of the tour. A young man brought our luggage to our room, which was beautiful. It was room 412 in the La Mer House. Absolutely immaculate room, to the point it made you wonder if it has ever been used before. Elegant island decor with a very comfortable bed. Very quiet, we never heard any noise from the hall or other rooms. Our balcony was large and very comfortable. Complimentary breakfast is served in the Dewey House from 8:30 to 10:30 every moring for the La Mer and Dewey House guests. It was an excellent complimentary breakfast offering inside as well as patio beach side seating. Again Sam was there graciously attending to each guest. In addition to delicious fresh fruits, cheeses, eggs, pastries, breads, cereals, yogurts, juices she personally offered to make each guest a belgian waffle if they so desired. On Sam's day off, Randal was there attending to everyones' needs with the same sincere attention to excellent service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, happy and friendly. The grounds include an assortment of wonderful pools, a beautiful beach, small clusters of palm trees with hammocks and lovely garden pathways connecting it all. The little open air restaurant on the beach serves a large variety of meals and has a full bar. If you go there be sure to ask for a frozen Panama Jack drink, my favorite! Even housekeeping personel were excellent. Even though the surroundings and service was of 5 star quality, the atmosphere was casual and totally relaxing. I can't list all the many details that make this hotel stand out far above all the others on the island, there everywhere you turn. Everything is right there, easily accessible, excellent quality, impeccable service and accommodations. Rates far above Ocean Key, Hilton, Sheraton or any other Hotel on the island and at a lower rate! Definitely the only place we will ever stay. Definitely the only place anyone should stay while on the island.

Excellent service, attentive to every need. Beautiful location, quiet, beach resort at the end of Duval. They are doing major renovations next door at a related hotel and this should be done soon, which will only enhance the experience with the new additions and activities being planned. Can not wait to return. Sam and Sam are Great!!
