“Great Location”

Southernmost on the Beach

I loved the location. It is at the quiet end of Duvall Street and a short walk to art shops, good dining, a wine bar. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the west end of Duvall Street if you want to hit the bars. They are building another addition to their existing 4 properties. Our pool was closed but had the use of two others one being across the street from our hotel. The beach was out front but wasn't raked and smelled at times, I would recommend the pool. The pelicans seemed to find enough fish to keep them busy. We were on the first floor and the people above us were heavy on their feet and once woke me up at 5am when it sounded like they jumped out of bed. It may be due to the ceramic flooring, no sound absorber like carpeting. The room however was very nicely decorated and I can understand the problem with other types of flooring in that weather. There was no breakfast but I would recommend either Bannana Cafe, one block up on Duvall, the bagel place across the street or Blue Heaven. There was no parking fee either which is a plus. I will stay there again but ask for a top floor.

Stayed here for 5 days had a great time.Rooms were clean and tidy staff very helpful. Aircon was a bit noisy.
Try and book an upstairs room they are slightly bigger and theres a small balcony as well.
No real beach to speak of but there is plenty to do nearby. Would definitely recommend the snorkelling trips had a great day out.

What a lovely website--how beautiful it looks on line---we decided that is where we will celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. And then we got there:::
The Pool---closed--Why? CONSTRUCTION on the property. The Beach---dirty, seaweed (never raked up)and the smell. I am not kidding--it smelled. The odor carried its way into the resturant on the beach. (made breakfast unbearable)---
The rooms were clean--They did have other properties across the street that had pools and we were allowed to use them. But honestly that just took away from the romantic feel of the place. We paid to have ocean view and on the beach and near the pool. But the pool was closed, the beach was dirty and smelled and we had to walk across the street to the other property to swim--We might just have well not paid the extra money to stay by the beach it was a waste. We are frequent travelers of beaches and this I tell you is NOT a beach. Ask before you book.

“Nice stay at Southernmost on the Beach”

Southernmost on the Beach

We stayed at Southernmost on the Beach from June 29-July 5.
We got a great rate and I was aware of the construction and beach conditions so I was not disappointed. We were in room 122 which would be an ideal location next to the pool. Unfortunately, the pool was closed due to a broken pipe the entire time we were there. We did use the pool at the sister property across the street which, at this point is much nicer anyway. Actually, their are 2 pools at the sister property, one with a Tiki Bar and one without.

Our king room was nice, not huge but nice for 2 people. Housekeeping did a good job coming around 3:00 or so most days. There is a mini fridge and coffee maker but no microwave.
Wireless internet is available.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had Keys Kash Vouchers for $20 for breakfast at the cafe and for 2 free tickets to Mel Fishers. They were out of them the first day but had them ready for us the next morning. They also made reservations for us at Santiago's Bodega, called cabs, whatever we needed they were happy to help.

The Southernmost Beach Cafe is a nice place for breakfast. The croissant breakfast sandwich is huge. Hubby enjoyed his omelet as well. I have to say that Cathy was the hardest working server there.

The private sunning pier is nice. It is the best place to enter the water. The water is only about 4 ft deep there and you can swim or wade toward the neighboring resorts.

Overall, we were very satisfied and would stay again if the price after construction is complete doesn't go beyond our reach.

“Not bad...not wonderful....Doable.....”

Property is at the quiet end of Duval. Get ready to walk at least a mile each way if you want to go to the other end of Duval where most of the bustle and sunsets are....we drove but parking is very hard to find. we walked everywhere. there are people taxis but they charge too much. The property was clean, room was nice and clean. Bathroom was nicely rennovated. But its just a room. Bed, TV, bathroom...and the photos misled me because i thought we had a true balcony, but really each room just has a walk out to the walkway/balcony that is all connected. and its outside your entry door. so there is no balcony off the back of the room. the photos on the web site are totally misleading there. The beach is small and cute, but the water is totally unswimmable and even too brown/murky/seaweedy for wading to cool off. we didnt even use the beach here because it was too hot to not have somewhere to cool off. this is not a true beach, just a sandy spot. So overall, the hotel was so-so. The pool was out of order which we did not really care about anyway because it was small and unattractive. Go to the Southernmost hotel pool with the tiki bar. MUCH nicer!

We were lucky to meet a honeymooming couple and stay at their 2-bedroom luxury suite for our last night, at no cost. These are 1.5 million$ suites that they rent out for less than $250 a night and are 2 bedroom, so VERY affordable if you have 4 people. They were AWESOME, subzero appliances in the kitchen, 3 bathrooms, granite counters, kohler applicances, glass walls, an tropical poool set up. So this blew the Southernmost out of the water. It was called Santa Maria suites and ill write a review there too.

Anyway, the Southernmost is at the quiet end. If we go back, I will stay at the Santa Maria suites or at one of the many cute questhouses/b&bs...they are more centrally located.

The 2 beaches in Key West, Smather's beach and Fort Zachary st park are good. We had a car so we drove. Dont try to walk to Ft. Zachary Taylor beach, about a 30 min. walk each way in the HEAT....drive there. Nice beach, decent water but not totally clear and rocky bottom. Smathers is much longer and has many food vendors. There is a lot of sea grass but if you walk over it, you get to a clear portion of the ocean which is great.

We did a Fury all day boat tour which had snorkel, parasailing, jet skiing, kayak, breakfast, lunch, drinks and other water games. $139 pp, includes a sunset cruise which is pretty boring but has free alcohol ( for another day).....have done many many tours and this one ranks up there as the most worth is one. That is a lot of activity for $139 pp...very good price.

did a lot of research on food beforehand and it paid off. You MUST go to:

Blue Heaven - breakfast
Santiago's Bodega - dinner (tapas)
ilTrattoria - Italian dinner and there is a salsa bar in the back, separated
Ambrosia - Japanese
5 brothers for empanadas and cuban lunches
Rooftop Cafe for dinner
Hog's Breath bar for $10 oysters

overall, loved Key West, loved the food especially, the bars, Duval street, the beaches, even though there are few, the people, everything, it was great!
