“Heron House "Wonderful"”

Heron House

Jul 22, 2008

Our recent stay was very enjoyable!!! The accomadations were perfect, and clean! The staff is very attentive, and we enjoyed Michael's pleasant manner in the morning at a delicious breakfast which he continually kept filled. It was also a pleasure to deal with Josh and Cynthia in the office who were always professional and friendly!!

Thank You!

Gary and Kathy Breckley

My boyfriend and I just returned from a long weekend in Key West where we stayed at the Heron House. This place made our trip! It's in a great location - just one block away from Duval Street. But it feels like miles away from the noise! It was great to drop off our bags of souvenirs without taking up time walking across the island. And when the Florida sun is at its hottest, it was wonderful to pop back to our room, change into our bathing suits and take a dip before heading out to dinner. Our room was a poolside room, which is literally poolside. Some reviewers noted that it was noisy at breakfast time. Maybe the air conditioner in our room drowned it out, but I couldn't hear a thing. The room was a little small compared to normal hotel rooms, but we weren't planning to sit around in the room anyway. Besides, the Heron House has plenty of poolside seating, as well as a great sundeck, and comfy outdoor couches in a beautiful breezeway. A note to some travellers - our room did not have a tub but only a standup shower. This was clearly stated to us when we booked so we knew what to expect. (I have read some reviews where people were surprised to find out they didn't have a tub.) The door to the bathroom is also a pocket door with wooden slats - not soundproof so it may not be the best thing for those that suffer from "stagefright." But enough about the rooms! The staff at the Heron House are extremely friendly and helpful! When asked, they had plenty of recommendations for dining and activities. Every member of the staff was quick with a smile and hello. The breakfast was great - several types of cereal, toast, danish, coffee, tea, juice. On Saturday, they even had a hot meal of cheese blintzes. We were able to fill up our bellies every morning for our day of sightseeing. From what I saw of breakfast menus around the island, having a breakfast included in your room price is a great value and very convenient. I absolutely loved the Heron House and have already recommended them to several friends and my parents!

“Wonderful Place and Great Location”

This place is a wonderful bed and breakfast. The location could not get any better as you are one block off Duval Street but can easily walk to all the restaurants, bars and activites on Duval. We stayed in a Junior Garden Terrace room and it was beautiful. Almost too big for our needs. We never watched TV, so the area that has a couch and TV never got used. The pool is nice except that you aren't permitted to layout around the pool because of available space. To sun tan - you must layout on a deck located on the second floor. So everytime you want to jump into the pool to cool off - you need to come downstairs and enter the pool. Not a huge deal, but would be better if you were poolside. The breakfast in the morning consists of sweet rolls, cereal, juice and coffee. Some mornings have small cheese omlettes. None of the foods are home made - but they are tasty. Friday night featured a wine and cheese gathering. We didn't attend because we spent the entire day in the numerous bars, so having another drink wasn't high on our list. All-in-all, great place for the price! Oh yeah - one other nice feature was the lack of children. Not sure if they are permitted or not, but it was enjoyable not having screaming kids in the pool.

“Amazing Bed & Breakfast”

Heron House

5 of 5 stars
Delaware
Jun 3, 2008

My husband and I traveled to Key West with 2 other couples and stayed at the Heron House on Simonton Street May 29-June 2. One of the couples shopped for hotels via the internet and let me tell you, Heron House is truly as beautiful as the pictures on their website! Everything was just as we had seen on the website. None of us had ever stayed at a bed & breakfast before and weren't too sure what to expect, but after experiencing the peacefulness and tranquility at the Heron House we have all decided to come back again in a few years.

All 3 of our rooms were grouped together in a shaded porch area off of the pool (poolside room). Even though we were all literally next door to each other, we never heard voices or TV sounds through the walls. The staff at Heron House was exceptional! They were "there" but barely visible, always helpful and very informative. Our room and that of one other couple was rather small with one double bed, a mini refrigerator and a stand-up shower in the bathroom, but still perfectly sized for 2 people. The third couple had a slightly larger room with a whirlpool tub/shower and a mini bar. None of us had any complaints at all. We all spent each afternoon and early evening sitting on "our" porch outside of our rooms enjoying snacks and drinks.

The breakfast served varied each day. The staples were coffee, teas, orange juice, cereal, fruit salad, hard boiled eggs, breads (+ english mufflins and croissants with a toaster near by), and the staff served french toast one day and cheese omelets the next. Each day breakfast was delicious and filling!

One of the best things about the Heron House is the location. You are 2 blocks from Duval Street where all the action takes place...bars, restaurants, shops, but at night it is so peaceful and quiet that you don't realize just how close to the nightlife you are.

My best story...after we had returned home and I began to sort laundry, I realized that when my husband was re-packing our suitcase, he left a pair of my capris at the hotel. One quick phone call later and Rebecca at the front desk had already checked the lost and found (with no results) and promised to check our room for my capris when it wasn't occupied. I received a phone call from her a few hours later letting me know that she found them behind the wooden luggage rack. Rebecca is shipping them back to me and has totally reinforced my pleasure with Heron House. Not many hotels would go out of the way as she did to check the room again for a missing item of clothing. Thank you, Rebecca! And thank you, Heron House. We are all planning another trip to Key West and will be staying at Heron House again!
