My wife and I found the Grand Guest House when we decided to come down for Fantasy Fest at the last minute and needed a place in old town Key West for Friday and Saturday nights. We were directed to the Grand by the Key West Innkeepers' clearinghouse telephone number. We virtualy immediately received an e-mail confirmation from the onsite onwer. Check-in was quick and easy and the onsite parking was perfect. Even though we had been to Key West before, the owner suggested several close restaurants and other stops. We were shown to our second story room which was a queen one bedroom suite which also had a foldout queen size futon/sleeper bed in the first room where the kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, and coffeemaker were located. The entire suite, and all of the Grand's grounds and common areas, were well-maintained. The suite, bedroom, and bahroom were very clean. The AC unit was strong and easy to operate in several different modes and settings. The breakfast was fairly standard but everything was fresh, kept stocked, and the garden seating area was full of beautiful tropical plants. Dirty dishes were promptly cleared and the staff was friendly as well. We did not hear any neighbors the entire time we were there, although we did meet some nice people who were staying at the Grand that weekend over breakfast and everyone was friendly and complimentary about the Grand and their experience there. The only negaives we can offer are the following. First, since we like to park the car when we arrive in Key West and then walk while we are there, the Grand definitely gave us some exercise getting to and from the seaport end of the island and the more active end of Duval Street. If you are driving or riding scooters or bikes, however, this will not be a problem. Second, although we did not miss it since we had a busy schedule, the Grand does not have a pool so if we were visiting during the hot months of July through September, we probably would have regretted not having a pool (the Grand, however, is close to the beach). Last, a relatively minor issue was that the TV was mounted in the bedroom as opposed to the larger common room in the suite where it would have been more convenient during the day and evening to watch-again, a minor point (people who would prefer to watch TV in bed would obvioulsy disagree). Despite these last couple points, we can nevertheless recommend without reservation the Grand Guest House since in the important points of comfort, cleanliness, maintenance, and overall quality, this B&B is well-run and was a real pleasure.
