I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and was pleased. This is why I chose to stay here with my family this time. I was scheduled to stay here 6 nights but only stayed 3. The only reason I stayed 3 was because I couldn't get a room elsewhere for my 3rd night. Our room was on the 8th floor in the corner right next to the Ocean Deck. It was very loud. The balcony was disgusting. There was bird poop all over the balcony along with thousands of ants. There were ants all over the room itself. We were afraid to eat the food we bought to keep in the room for fear of eating bugs. I left this hotel for a Radisson at half the price and it worth what I paid to stay here. I will never stay here again and would never recommend anyone else to stay here.

I have seen and read the recent reviews, and unless something drastic has happened over the last year, these folks have just been unlucky recipients of crappy service at a great hotel. My son and I stayed for 5 nights the week of 4th of July, 2006. We had a spacious room facing the beach, with a smaller balcony. The rooms have 2 different balcony sizes - the smaller one is fine for 2 people, but if you have a larger party, request a room with the larger balcony!! The tiki bar outside wasn't open that I saw while we were there, but the hotel bar is right inside the door from the pool deck, if we had to walk inside for a drink - big deal! There was a decent, standard continental breakfast daily - toast, cereal, fresh fruit, bagels, etc. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, but worth having, for sure! We had no problems with the cleaning service, things were always clean and fresh during our stay. I left my wallet in the room on more than one occasion - in a drawer - and never felt it was even seen, and it was definetly not a concern about leaving things in the room. The front desk staff was corteous when asked a question about the area, and asked about our stay each time we passed the front desk. The view was great from the balcony, we could see the main street pier just north of the hotel - about a 5 minute walk - see a good distance north of it, and all the way to the larger buildings of Daytona wayyyyy south of the hotel. If you have any questions, let me know!!! I am a frugal traveler who looks for the very best deal, as far as quality and value and I would definetly stay at the Mayan Best Western again!!!!

We were just there April 4-7. The room really grossed me out, but all hotels were booked because of a cheer competition.
We were on the 8th floor with ocean view. The patio was covered and I mean covered in bird poop. These need to be cleaned at least weekly! There was pidgeon droppings all over the outside air conditioner unit where fresh air is pulled into the rooms and the filters inside were disgusting. Lord only knows what we breathed in. There were 2 light bulbs out which never were replaced. Also I found it odd that there were no blankets on the bed. Only a sheet and spread. I doubt that the spreads are washed with each stay. The window had brown cobwebs, so it hadn't been dusted in a long long time. The only thing good about the place is the proximity to the beach and activities.
The bathroom faucet was broke so we only had warm water at all times.

We stayed at the Mayan Inn from March 30-April 3rd, 2007. HORRID is the only word to describe this thing they call a hotel. Incredibly dirty...feet were black after walking on the carpet...never did see housekeeping vaccum. Sheets were never changed, we had to ask for soap each time. Another day, we went out for breakfast and when we came back to our room, THREE housekeepers were outside our open room door. Two housekeepers were in the room and one was out in the hallway....doing what? Standing guard? The housekeepers became very nervous when we interrupted them. We were afraid to leave anything in the room for fear it would not be there upon our return. I also killed a cockroach the size of a small dog....where there's one, there's a million more. ICK. Tub was also never cleaned. There is a nice restaurant/club next door which is very good, but it's extremely noisy...music blares til about 3 AM, motorcycles revving up in the parking lot. If you dare stay here, ask for a room at the opposite end of the nightclub. The pool area was very nice and there's a nice little tiki bar...that is when the bartender decides to show up...most of the time she was in and out. Everytime we wanted another drink, she'd disappear for about 20 minutes. She is very pleasant though. We will never stay here again. Upon checkout, they don't even ask ( like most other hotels) about your stay. I'm sure they don't want to hear the complaints any longer. Wouldn't it be easier to just fix the problems?
