Our family (husband, myself and 2 teenage daughters) visited the resort in July 2005. We booked a room in advance for Cascade Village. We had a 1 bedroom loft. We entered a stifling hot, smelly room with the curtains hanging off the rod. Our first impression was not good. We went to turn on the A/C and discovered there wasn't any!Went to turn on the TV and the remote was missing. We went to our mini-fridge to get ice, there was none and it never did work. The bad smell came from the garbage disposal that didn't work.
It was 90 degrees so we decided a swim would cool us off. On the bright side, the indoor pool was large, clean and felt refreshing.
Checking with the front desk we found that none of the units had A/C. Ice was available two miles up the road!
Our kids found the sofabed nearly impossible to sleep on and a ceiling fan made the loft area almost tolerable.
Also, the location is on a main highway. If you get a room with a view. The road noise can be rather loud when your windows are open to keep the room cool.
We changed rooms the next day, to a regular one bedroom. It was like night and day. Still no air conditioning, but the bedroom had windows we could open, the freezer had ice, the curtains were up, the TV had a remote, etc!!
Another problem was that there were no alarm clocks. I then tried to request a wake-up call but was told they weren't equipped for that! The small hotel shop wasn't open and also a coffee shop was not available.
I have stayed at other places where A/C was not available and they had fans you could borrow. I have never encountered a place without an ice machine. Not even an alarm clock you could use. The front desk person that I dealt with was a manger. If he's not concerned with your problems and not interested in fixing them, that's not a good sign.
We did talk to a desk clerk that was helpful and also a maintenance man. We were told repairs and maintenance work is up to the individual owners. We feel that if you belong to a condo rental program there should be certain standards and codes that would have to be met in order to participate.
We rent from "Resorts" rather than individual owners because we expect a "Resort" to have some standards!! It is the name of the resort that is going to be dragged through the mud, not the condo owner's name! Up until now our theory was working for us, this was the first ski resort area we've ever been disappointed in. We know summer is not high season but we are paying guests and expect what is advertised to be available.
