We stayed at the Royal Reserve Safari & Beach Club March 2008, arranged through Club La Costa where we also enjoyed a superb three day safari organised for us by Julius Tact of JT Safaris.
Had already read about Julius on Trip Advisor and set up a time to meet, we met Julius & Lucky our driver at our resort, signing them in as our guests. We found Julius most informative and accommodating to our needs. Julius presented us with pictures of lodges and camps and very honestly recommended which sites would be most suitable for us. However we very impressed by Julius’ quiet nature which was not at all pushy and this enabled us to make the best decision for us. We had already decided on 3 days so then decided on Tsavo West and Amboseli.
The first night we stayed at the fabulous Ngulia Lodge where a leopard comes to feed each evening at a floodlit wooden frame just outside of the restaurant - just a few meters away from where the elephants come to drink at the floodlit waterhole!
The second night we stayed at a new camp near to Kibo Camp and the Kimana Gate to the Amboseli national park. But this was not camping in the traditional sense; this was camping in luxury - good beds, great showers, even a swimming pool with great views of Mt Killimanjaro, the game drive from there was full of clear open space, but just full of large herds of very varied, all mixed together game animals! Wonderful!
We were absolutely amazed at the variety of wildlife we saw on this trip, four of the big five. We will defiantly go back (It’s so easy with CLC) hopefully to see the rhino at Tsavo West reserve. It all far exceeded our expectations and we managed to get some wonderful photographs.
Finally Julius met us again afterwards at the Royal Reserve which was a lovely touch, we took the opportunity to recommend him another family, arrangements were made and Julius was again fantastic to best accommodate their specific requirements.
A slightly belated thank you Julius & Lucky!
