On our way to the GC from Phoenix, we decided to break up the trip by spending 1 nite in Sedona on the way north; and 2 nites on the return trip. After consulting trip advisor for recommended B&B's, we came upon Canyon Villa as one of the highly rated ones; and we were not disappointed. The owners (Les and Peg) were extremely pleasant, helpful, and accomodating; as were the several staff members we met. The B&B is located in walking distance of I17, and is just across from one of the beautiful hiking trails that goes around Bell Rock. However, on the same side of the highway , direclty behind the B&B are a few 'not as well marked trails (e.g. there are not listed in the guide books) that take you on a hike around the base of some rocks you can see from your bedroom window. So, the location is perfect, the only tiny caveat is that you may hear some passing cars in the morning on I17.
The B&B is immacculate, the breakfast connosieur level, and the afternoon snacks very welcome (especially after hiking). Peg and Les don't stock any beverages, and there are no refrigerators in the rooms, but they are quite happy for you to keep your own beverages in communal fridges in the dining room area. This helped make the early evening 'social times', sitting in the living room, highly enjoyable and a chance to learn what others did that day, and could recommend.
Outside there is a small swimming pool, which Les mentioned is recently convereted to solar heating... so although I took a plunge,it is a bit brisk (it was about 70oF when I was there). We also discovered that in the evening there is an outdoor fire place that folks gather around.
The B&B front room is an office/ gift shop/ tourist guide area.. They stock several guidebooks of the area, post cards, and a few other items. But more important is that the staff who are there are extremely knowledgable about the area and could recommend not only restaurants but also places to hike, places for lunch, and other tourist venues. Finally, they have a well stocked library, with books,DVDs,and a computer for guest use.
Canyon B*B is not in Sedona, it is about 3 or 4 miles south. There were a few restaurants nearby, but we found that making the short trip into downtown Sedona gave us many more possibilities for shopping and dining
Overall, we had an excellent experience and would stop again there on our trips in that area.
