I booked this hotel over Hotwire, so I didn't quite know what to expect, although I've had good luck with this service in the past. The first indication that this was not a first-rate hotel is that the two front desk clerks were outside smoking cigarettes at the entrance as we drove up (well, at least they weren't smoking INSIDE!) The hotel appears to be at least 40 years old, and is in serious need of renovation, if not being a serious candidate for a complete tear-down. Lighting in outdoor hallways is very dim, and it was hard to find our room (rooms have doors that open to the outside hallway). The room was clean enough (although very dated with old furniture and paintings), but the real problem was when we sat in the room for a few minutes - they have a very old, antiquated ventilation system which gasped and wheezed throughout the entire night. And if that isn't bad enough, you could also hear the ventilation system in the rooms next door - like stereo. A call to the front desk didn't bring any relief. The final topper was the next morning (after a rather sleepless night) when I went in to take a shower, and there was no hot water (at 8 AM!)....of course, I have to remind myself that "you get what you pay for", but I think I would have preferred sleeping in my car!
Find another place to stay on your next trip to the Scottsdale area - even Motel 6 would have been an improvement!
