This is my favorite place to eat in the whole world!!! I am a "Snow Bird" and enjoy Arizona only a few months out of the year but recently retired and hope to spend more time here. I have traveled all over the world with my company and this is my all time favorite restaurant bar none. It has been there for ever. I think it is 80 years old which is impressive in a new city like Phoenix. I have a special fondness for anything older than me! The owners have tried to keep the old fashioned warmth so not everything is brand spanking new. If you’re a chrome and glass kind of person then MacAlpine's might not be for you. I savor the history and magic embedded in the walls of this charming restaurant. It feels so good when you walk through the door. I know it is a cliché but it really does feel like you stepped back in time. Right out of the time machine into the 1930’s or 40’s. The staff is very friendly, mostly young cute waitresses who seem to love their job. The food is great, nothing fancy…just delicious homemade dishes like my mom would cook. If you catch the owners, they will tale the time to talk to you. Dynamic young couple who also run and antique and “retro” store right next to MacAlpine’s. I was a little offended that the stuff I have in my house is what the owner, Monica, calls retro but I will get over it! Actually, her store is really fun! I found a Haywood Wakefield headboard that I had shipped to our cottage in Vermont that was really quite reasonable. My granddaughter loves the vintage clothing and jewelry. My husband loves the old advertising memorabilia. Hope you take the time to check out this little gem!
