We had my brother and his family in from out of town. So of course my other siblings wanted to go to dinner also.
We wanted something with a Western Flavor but not expensive.
We decided to go to the Big Apple. I remember going there every Sunday Years ago and loving the Pig Sandwiches and Deep Dish Apple Pie. My dad would make us finish off our sandwich before we were allowed dessert. Not sure why we never carried on the tradition with my own family. We have now have to start it once again!
The decor is great. Antiques everywhere, sawdust on the floor and the waitresses (we had a cowboy waiter one night) all carry a gun slung around their hips and wear Western shirts and jeans
It is a great family place to go. I had the ribs, the BBQ sauce is to die for. They were very tender and I could not get enough of the BBQ sauce. The Italian was a sweet italian which was very different, my husband had a huge steak (they gave him a free t-shirt with it even though he was not able to eat the entire steak, evenwith my nephew helping him eat it. He had French dressing which I tried a bite of and it was really good. The waitress said that all the dressings except the diet one are made from scratch and they use Cinnamon in the french dressing. The recipes for everything are made from Bill Johnsons wife's recipes from decades ago. She said even the BBQ sauce was her recipe. After we ate we walked through the restaurant to look at al the cool stuff. Of course we did have the deep dish apple pie and food out they now have cherry and peach also, so I tried the Cherry this time and it is my new favorite. The pie come with a huge scoop of vanilla Ice Cream on it also.
The only complaint I can think of is we ate too much.
I am getting hungry all over again. I can't wait until tommorrow to go back.
