The museum building and grounds were very nice, and some of the collection was great - but I didn't like having so many modern pieces mixed in with the ancient - though finely done, I have little interest in seeing a pot from 1990 - others may - I simply don't. Having them mixed in so much with the ancient items made it hard for me to find the things I most wanted to see - and I eventually tired of it. (I have seen a superior collection at the Southwest museum in LA - which has recently closed.) The cafe on the grounds was very good.

My wife is the museum type. I'm more into bumper boats. But I am very glad that we went to the Heard Museum. I learned a lot about the Native Americans, that I never learned in school. There are many original pieces of clothing, baskets, dolls, and jewelry from the turn of the century, as well as some stunning silver work from more recent. There is a nice large area for kids, to color and make crafts. Also very informative was learning about the early public schools for Native Americans. Parts of it were very touching. Overall, it was much more than I expected and definitely worth it. We all enjoyed it.

Went there when they were having a Spanish Festival...got in free...which is always a plus...these were some of the best exhibits of Indian items that I have ever seen.,..nicely laid out..great staff...gift shop is a bit pricey!!! Overall, a great experience!!!

An interesting museum. We came for the kachinas and weren't disappointed. The museum collection is amazing. The gift shop selections are outstanding. A must see for collectors of Southwest American Indian art of all types.
