Amazing. We stayed six nights. Very comfortable room with a small kitchen, comfortable bed and quiet. There is a gym, heated pool and we had free internet access in the room. The staff was helpful in booking tickets, dinner reservations, and giving directions. Great location. We could walk to wonderful restaurants, easy to access the subway and very safe. For the price and location, definitely worth it, especially if you are traveling for an extended period of time.
We used this hotel as “home base” during our honeymoon in Argentina – checking in and out during domestic travel getaways.
We stayed in Room 1001 which was clean and had all the comforts of home. Our room had a double bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. We also had a balcony with a built-in BBQ grill and view of the Recoleta cemetery and the Plazaleta de Recoleta. A couple cons – the shower door did not cover the entire span of the tub thereby water tended to splash all over the place whenever my 6 foot tall hubby showered. The balcony wall was too high, so if seated on the deck chairs, you had a wonderful view of a cement wall. Not to worry, as there are plenty of towels to soak up the water. And, Buenos Aires has so much to do that we almost never sat in the deck chairs. The floor above contained a sauna and gym that was hardly ever used; therefore we didn’t have any noisy neighbors. The main floor contained a small pool and Jacuzzi and 2 computers with free internet access. The bilingual bell boys were very friendly, and did their best to help whenever possible.
Breakfast was included from 7:00 to 11:00am, and available at Tea Connection – a tea house 1 block away from the hotel. The spread was decent – coffee/tea, juices, breads, jams/jellies (of course dulce de leche), fruits, meats and cheeses. We quickly learned that people in Buenos Aires just pick an empty table and sit down – so don’t wait to be seated or you might be waiting a long time! Also, brush-up on some basic Spanish as the staff here does not speak English. Lastly, and this might sound a little weird, place a napkin over your plate before serving yourself. The plates are made of wood and have a peculiar smell that drove me crazy!
The area itself has a lot to do. The main attraction being the Cemetery – home to many angel statues and hundreds of live cats! You must pay a visit to the tomb of Evita. There are also lots of restaurants and shops. Make sure you get some gelato from Freddo’s. There is a flea market on Saturday on the grounds outside the cemetery where you can haggle for touristy take home items. If you prefer name brand shopping, check out Patio Bullrich. The neighborhood of Palermo is walking distance away. There are also several gardens and museums in the vicinity.
This hotel is very well located for business or a pleasure trip to Buenos Aires. It's location is ideal, near the Recoleta Cementery, Village of Recoleta (where you have restaurants and a movie theater). I stayed in the top floor and had a huge terrace with views to the Recoleta Cementery. The rooms are very comfortable since you have a microwave, small stove, refrigerator, a full dining room where you can work very comfortably in your own room. During my stay I never felt I was in a hotel, I felt more like I had my own little studio. The staff is very friendly and can recommend tours and activities for you to enjoy. The hotel is modern, the rooms all have wood floors and room furniture is modern and well kept. Best stay in the area for the price.
We just returned from an incredible week's stay (February 2008) at the Ayres de Recoleta in Buenos Aires. This time of year the temperature hovers in the upper 80s-lower 90s. The cool hotel was a welcome retreat after being out seeing the sights, shopping and dining. The location is perfect. It is centrally located, a safe area with lots of great restaurants, and historical sights (namely the famed cemetary which is right up the street). The view from our balcony at night was great. I had researched for hours before I selected the Ayres de Recoleta. My wife and I were both extremely pleased with the modern facilities and very helpful staff. I felt the price was extremely fair. It isn't a gigantic hotel where you are just another face. The staff was very accomodating. I unfortunately left my cell phone on our incoming flight and the staff made several phone calls in my behalf to help me locate it. When we return to Buenos Aires (which we undoubtedly will) we will return to this hotel.
