“Not great!”

Claridge Hotel

When you arrrive at the hotel it is very impressive, it is a gorgeous looking building from the outside and the reception and bar area is fine. The staff were very friendly and helpful (with the exception of just 1), but the rooms?! It has to be the worst room I have ever stayed in, it was soo small there is just enough room to walk round the bed and there is one very small cupboard and the bathroom is equally as small. The other bad thing is that the walls are paper thin, we could hear people walking past our room going for breakfast at 7am (most of the people staying here were over the age of 70!) if you use the bathroom at the same time as your neighbour you may as well be using the same bathroom - you can hear everything! is is as if they were in the same room as you. It is a great location and if it was a cheap 3 star hotel, it would be good for people on a budget, but it isn't particularly cheap and I guess because of the facilities the hotel has (gym, pool etc.) it is starred higher, but the rooms do not reflect this.

“Not impressed”

Claridge Hotel

We just returned home from a trip to BA and must say the Claridge was a disappointment. We stayed at the Mine Hotel (highly recommend) for the first part of trip and concluded our visit at the Claridge. The location was good and the front desk was helpful.......BUT, the rooms were very small, dingy and very stuffy. You can tell by the celebrity pictures on the wall in the fitness center, this hotel's hayday was back in the 1970s! The walls were so thin every time our neighbor was unlocking their door, I thought someone was coming into our room! Plus, we are both non-smokers and unfortunately the air vents are connected between rooms so our neighbors' pack-a-day habit made its way into our room every night. When I called to complain all housekeeping said is that they could come up and "spray" our room.....needless to say we had to sleep with the windows (no screen) wide open and listen to traffic all night. Overall, I would say that location was not enough for me to return to the Claridge or recommend it to a friend.

“Great hotel and great location”

Concierge was excellent and always ready to assist and make recommendations. Location was excellent within walking distance everywhere. The room was large and very comfortable.
Daily breakfast buffet was varied and delicious. My first formal afternoon tea and it was a lovely experience. This hotel is a great value for the money. Planning a return trip next year.

“Hated it...”

The rooms are tiny and in need of renovation. Everything was dingy. Walls are paper thin. Several times I thought the people next door or in the hall were actually in my room! The bed was terribly uncomfortable...very lumpy. I would have slept on the floor had it not been so dirty. The room was very warm and stuffy (they shut off the AC during the winter). To air it out I had to leave the window open. There is a parking garage nearby and anytime anyone entered or left there was a dinging sound (every couple of minutes) that resonated right up to the room! The dinging was relentless, even at 2 in the morning. I was unhappy that I paid so much to be so uncomfortable. I hardly slept and was extremely tired for the next couple of days.

The Claridge is in an excellent location (lots of shopping right around the corner) and the staff there was very friendly and spoke English, however, I would never stay at this place again or recommend it to any of my friends and family.

“Great value and location”

Claridge Hotel

I stayed 7 nights altogether with a break in the middle. The hotel is lovely and the staff are exceptionally helpful. My only complaint is that the first room was next to the staff service lift and corridor and was very noisy on and off from 7.30am through to 11pm,(room 413). The second room was noisy because it was an adjoining room and there seemed to be no sound proofing at all (612). There was a demonstration on Aug. 7 because some staff were sacked in July. We came back from shopping to check out, to find riot police and the hotel covered in graffitti. The staff were great and helped us get a taxi but they could have warned residents in advance as they put the grills on the windows so they had obviously been expecting it. It was quite scary to arrive outside and hear drums and watch firecrackers being thrown at the hotel. Also, the pool was closed fro renovation for a month.
Best rates anywhere are hotel website. Even the hotel staff offered me rates US$45 higher per night.
