“FS Revisited”

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

4 of 5 stars
New York

Second time here in 18 months, and noted some changes. Rooms updated with new furniture. Service still a feature--at least one staff member claimed to remember our names from a previous visit. Breakfast buffet continues to be bountiful. A couple of minor negatives: when we returned after dinner one night the door person reminded us that we still had time to catch the FS Tango Show. This wasn't so much advice as a sales push. There are, in truth, two places where the FS is distinctly inferior to other BA luxury hotels. The main restaurant on the lobby is no place you want to go for dinner. Indeed, the guide books mostly ignore it. The second underachievement is the FS tango show, which shouldn't be mentioned in the sane breath with that of the Faena. Still, after staying at or visiting all of the luxury hotels listed below, I would rank the FS first over all. It is less expensive that the Alvear Palace, its rooms are larger than those of the Sofitel, less austere (and bigger) than the rooms at the Park Hyatt. As for the Faena, I find it to be extraordinarily theatrical. The rooms express a kind of brothel-chic. And most guests will find it hard to live up to the hauteur of the staff. As previously noted, it has a remarkable tango show, but it can be fiercely expensive for the unaware. The package for the evening can be US$250 per person.. If you find that too dear, you can opt for a drinks only (no dinner) and don't accept their offer of a pick-up at your hotel. Just grab a cab on your own. (To be fair, my wife, who is a lot younger than I am, thinks if I was hip I would find the Faena more appealing.) Whether you attend the Faena tango show or not, you should --maybe must--go to a milonga if you like either tango or local culture. Here are two places where local people are likely to be seen dancing, La Calesita, and Centro Region la Leonesa. Here the show is the reality of locals who perform tango with artful devotion. One of the advantages of FS is you can walk through Recoleta, a neighborhood of impressive squares and narrow streets bordered by trees, sprinkled with interesting shops, cafes and everywhere interesting buildings honored with amazing doors--wooden, bronze, latticed ironwork or glass. But as you walk, keep one eye on the pavement. Portenos love dogs, but they don't love picking up after them. BA is a terrific city to explore on your own. And you should. But a guide can save you lots of time if you have a dedicated area of interest--shopping for art, or furniture, for example. We were fortunate to obtain the services of a bright and well-connected young woman who while born in Argentina was educated in the U.S. She was highly recommended by a hotel gm and by the wife of a high-ranking Argentine government official. If you're interested, please e-mail me and I will send you her contact info. Or if you want an expansion of anything herein, feel free to write.

“Elegant hotel with terrific service”

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

5 of 5 stars
San Diego, California
May 2, 2008

Highly recommend both a visit to Buenos Aires and staying at the Four Seasons while there. Just returned from 5 days at the Four Seasons. Service was fabulous! Rooms were beautiful, clean and well appointed. They provided great recommendations for tango lessons and restaurants. Hotel is in walking distance to La Recoleta, Puerto Madero, Plaza de Mayo and shopping along Florida street. There is a coffee shop across the street from the hotel, as well as several restaurants. They also have a tango show in the bar on Saturday nights - it is average, but free for guests of the hotel. Really enjoyed everything about our stay.

“highlight of my trip”

Because I arrived before a check-in time, I had to wait for an hour and a half having lunch till the room is ready. The English-speaking staff were very nice; the doormen even remembered my name. Although the location is a bit inconvenient, taxis are cheap so consequently it wasn't a problem. There's a shopping mall called 'Bull Rich' nearby, it's not as crowded as others so you might want to go. I stayed in the Mansion and the room wasn't with an excessive decor which I liked a lot. Amenities were excellent as well. I have to stay here again!

“Loved It!”

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

Recently stayed at the hotel. Booked the hotel directly by calling Buenos Aires since I had a problem booking on line for the week I was arriving (Yes, I speak Spanish). The staff at the hotel is amazing (they speak English and Spanish). I think I asked the concierge a million different things and they were polite and efficient each time. The breakfast was great and I always have breakfast at the hotels since I do not want to search for a place to have breakfast. They booked my side trips to Iguazu Falls and Uruguay plus arranged for transportation when I arrived. My daughter lives in the City and she came to visit us daily and she was extremely impressed with everyone at the hotel. We ate dinner at the restaurant a few nights (excellent) and enjoyed the bar and the pool during our stay. I always read trip advisor prior to booking hotels and this time I had my daughter search out some of the hotels since she lives in Buenos Aires. She advised us to book the Four Seasons based on their reputation. I realize they are not inexpensive but I did like the location and the hotel and all the amenities. I think this hotel would even be more important to non Spanish speakers since I did notice that they had many more questions regarding tours etc. that the hotel was able to answer. We stayed in two different types of rooms. One was standard and one was an upgrade with a living room etc. The upgraded room was much nicer but $200 more per night. I don't know if it was worth it but at the time I thought it was a much nicer room and my daughter was staying late that night so she had a place to rest. I will return to this hotel again.

“Truly Five Star Hotel”

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

5 of 5 stars
California
Apr 16, 2008

We stayed here for three nights in late March, 2008. This is a truly five star hotel, fully up to Four Seasons standards, maybe even above some of them. Space and marble everywhere, along with totally attentive service from everyone. most especially at the front desk.

We had booked a "Premier" room and had asked for the top floor for that particular class. Upon checkin, these were taken so they upgraded us to a fantastic suite in the adjoining Mansion Albeniz. This suite was huge! The sitting room had 18 pieces of furniture, not counting lamps. Unfortunately, it had been recently redecorated by someone with a very different idea of taste from us. Huge, comfortable bed which only occupied perhaps one-fifth of the floor space in the bvedroom. Large, wonderfuil bathroom. What a great place to end a long vacation.

Food in the bar was excellent. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel restaurant but the breakfast buffet was also excellent. There are about eight really good restaurants across the street from the hotel.

Our plane left in the evening on check-out day, so we took advantage of the hotel's offer to shower and change in their spa/pool rooms, a very welcome and nice touch in the late afternoon.
