“Wonderful stay”

Marriott Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires

I am a Platinum Marriott member, and was concerned staying in this hotel, based on some of the reviews. I am very glad that I decided to stay there, as I really liked the hotel. The staff is wonderfull and attentive, and the hotel itself very historic. It is correct that the rooms are not all the same, but that is the charm of staying in a historic hotel. All in all, a hotel to remember and recommend.

You have to be a little masochistic to enjoy this hotel, I suspect - but I really like it!

It's well located on Plaza San Martin at the start of Florida. It's a grand old hotel and the main dining room shows one what the hotel was like in its heyday in the 30s - the ancient fans are amazing! The hotel has atmosphere.

In an old hotel like this, rooms come in all shapes and sizes, with many suites. It's worth paying for one with Club access - breakfast there is worthwhile. If you go for room 690, you get a suite with your very own large grassed roof garden, and I think 686 has access to another section of roof garden.

The rooms are of variable quality. On one trip, I had water pouring through the ceiling after a storm - but was rapidly moved to a large, recently-redecorated suite as an upgrade. The bathrooms are fitted in old marble but some fittings are dated. I find the rooms and the beds very comfortable.

The main restaurant is excellent, and should be experienced once for the ambience alone. The secondary restaurant is less good but Buenos Aires has such splendid restaurants that you won't want to use it anyway.

Staff are - how shall I put this? - highly variable in quality. All the concierges are extremely knowledgeable and efficient, but they range from the friendly to the downright haughty. Front desk staff are pleasant and willing but get completely swamped when more than two people try to check in or out at the same time! Allow lots of time. Club staff are good.

I always enjoy the experience of staying here, but I hesitate to raise expectations too high because, with this hotel more than any other I know, enjoyment is very much a matter of one's own peculiar tastes! If you want a more familiar, reliable five-star service there are some good alternatives.

This hotel is overall decent. We were greeted by two muscular men that helped us with our bags and took them to the room later on. Check in was awful. Make sure you know a little spanish before talking to the front desk staff, otherwise, it may take awhile. I had orignally booked us in a NON smoking room and when we got to the hotel they said they had run out so we were placed in a smoking room which they removed the smell out with no hesitation, that was a plus. I had tango show tickets booked for 10pm and decided to eat in the hotel, bad decision. Buenos Aires generally has decent meals, but at this hotel, awful. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were large. If i do go back to Buenos Aires, I think i will try another hotel.

“Great off-season bargain, bed was heavenly”

Wonderful hotel! Stayed multiple times over a 2 week period and everything was great. The location is perfect for exploring all of Buenos Aires. The building is a historic renovation with beautiful rooms overlooking the the San Martin Plaza park. We stayed in other hotels in Buenos Aires during our 3-week honeymoon in Argentina and the Marriott was far and away the best hotel. A welcome change from the typical hotels found around the country. The bed was absolutely heavenly!

The service and responsiveness was also wonderful. One night, the heating unit in our room started making a noise. We called the front desk at 2 am and they immediately sent someone up with a room key to a nearby room so we could sleep. The following day they upgraded us to a suite and apologized for the inconvenience.

This is a great option in Buenos Aires and definitely a bargain in the off-season!

Room was good; just give yourself an hour to check in or check out. Front desk was not able to handle the customers.
