Bula!!
Fiji is a fantastic place with fantastic people and what a better way to experience Fiji than at Coconut Grove. Ronna and her staff are all extremely sweet and make you feel right at home. CG is a tiny place with only three bures (cottages). If five star gleaming marble pamper me like I'm a movie star is what you are shooting for, go ahead and pay 1000 a night to stay somewhere else. If what you are looking for is a comfy bure, great service by some Fijians who are genuinely sweet all on a beautiful and quiet beach CG is for you.
The beach. On Taveuni Ronna's beach is good (if you want glorious white sand beaches go to the Manumuccas with a hundred other people) with enough sand to hang out on and with beautiful turquise waters. Perfect water for a swim, or use the provided kayaks to paddle out to one of the nearby islands. And if snorkeling is your thing, you have come to a great place. The reef is out a bit and requires a little work, but once out there it is well worth the swim.
Ronna's restaurant was definetly a plus. Everything cooked fresh to order by Bimla and crew you are in for a treat. Several other people who came to eat from other resorts confirmed that Ronna's food is the best on the island. The food was very good, very fresh with a enough variety to keep us interested for over a week with what was coming next.
The hardest part to get used to though was this whole Fiji time thing. Coming from the states where is everything is pre-arranged down to the smallest detail, some of our tour arrangements left us wondering. However, everything always worked out, or as the Fijians say, "No worries". We were scheduled to go for a rain forest hike. We got to the village and they said they didn't know we were coming. We waited for 10 minutes, a guide showed up and we went for a fantastic hike in the forest. No worries.
One of our highlights was a scuba dive we did with Carl at Taveuni Dive at Ronna's suggestion. Carl was awesome, ok the reefs played some part in my feelings. But Carl was super knowledgable and took us to some pretty special dive sites. Thanks to Ronna for the recommendation to go to Carl's. Ronna was very knowledgable and a great source of information about the island and can help make your stay meet your expectations.
Long story short. Coconut Grove gets high marks for service, quality food, a quiet and super beautiful setting, excellent snorkeling on a good beach.
