“Brilliant Hotel”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

5 of 5 stars

We are just back from a great week at the Mirabel Park Hotel.
The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The room was basic but again, clean and spacious. The bathroom was great, a massive walk in shower which was lovely. We found the beds comfy and nice and big. All rooms look over the pool area which is nice.
The pool area was lovely and again spotlessly clean, plenty of sunbeds for everyone.
The park is a short walk to the beach but not too far and although we only went to the beach once it looked like a nice beach.
Food at the hotel is not great, you wont go hungry... but, for the quality of everthing else in the hotel the food seemed to let it down a little. Having said that though the dining area again was spotless and the food although not brilliant was edible and appeared to be as fresh as a buffet style could be. When I say not brilliant I mean choice not quality of food hygeine, that seemed to be fine!
The hotels entertainment didnt appear to be the greatest, although in fairness most nights we sat on our balcony and watched the world go by.
The hotel is under a flight path to sharm airport but it never really caused a problem, aircraft noise was not really noticable.
Tipping the staff.... we tipped all staff at the end of our stay, we had an excellent service from all staff cleaners, waiters and bar staff, they did not need tipping at the beginning of the holiday in order to get a good service from them.
The only real critisism is the management of the minibar, it is not included in the AI price and they tend not to check it everyday and then seem to add stuff on when they feel like it. We along with another couple were presented with questionable minibar bills. If you are going to use it keep your own record of what you take from it and query if it is different to what they say.
All in all an excellent holiday in an excellent hotel with excellent staff. We would go back to this hotel and this area.

“More than we bargained for”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

May 12, 2008

It is worth pointing out this was our first time to Egypt, to a resort based holiday, on an All Inclusive package usually preferring to go to a self catering resort in Europe during the summer months.
We stayed in the Club part of this large hotel complex. We were very pleasantly surprised on arrival. Everywhere appeared to be polished clean, the pools well and rooms well kept and the staff very courteous but not overbearing (excluding one man who refused us free bottled water dead on midnight having just arrived )
The weather was beautiful. Sun beds a plenty. A gripe for us would have been the 'pool side entertainment' employed by a german holiday company. They insisted on blaring music from 10am until 6 pm with a lunch break in the middle. It was not welcomed not even by the children it would seem. They were a pleasant group of teenagers who could not understand why people did not want to play darts/volleyball/walking/dice whilst trying to quietly read a book. Maybe thats our personal preference though.
There were a few minor hickups all of which were dealt with promptly and appropriately by management during the first part of the week. They should be commended on this.
Unfortunately we developed large concerns when myself/ partner plus four adults befriended at the pool side became ill with stomach cramps, closely followed by diarrhoea and vomiting. For some it was worse than others. I was confined to bed for 2 days before departure with severe and persistant diarrhoea and vomiting. Not 'dodgy tum' but rather quite marked gastroenteritis. The onsite pharmacist had sold out of some of his usual remedies due to the high demand. However the onsite doctor claimed it was not his job to investigate further to take action as the illnesses had not been reported to him and he cant take people going to the pharmacy as evidence there is a problem.
I am aware that people often become ill on holidays to egypt. We are both very sensible with hand hygiene and took obvious precautions. My concern is once someone comes down with something in a resort like this it spreads like wild fire unless measures are put in place to stop it. Unfortunately I felt the hotel lacked insight into this and if anything swept the most important of all issues under the carpet.
God help the next person who stays in our room. It will be only a few days Im sure. A sorry ending to what could have been a very pleasant holiday if you like all inclusive resorts.

“Lovely Girly Holiday!!”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

May 8, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

I went to sol y mar mirabel december 2007 and had a fabulous time! I was traveling with my friend and was intented as a girly get-away for the two of us. The hotel is kept very clean and our room was very big, it had a double bed and two single beds in it. The bathroom was large as well and had a big walk in shower.

The room was cleaned every morning, the only problem we had with this was that the cleaners came quite early in the morning (about 8 o'clock) and usually opened the door and called in at us! This did get annoying as especially on the first day we had arrived early in the morning and were very tired!

The hotel has marble flooring in the reception, the bars on the stairs and around the pools. It looked very nice and was constantly cleaned but was very slippery especially around the pool and my friend and I both fell on several occaisions, a suggestion would be to make sure your shoes have a little bit of grip on the soles and then you wont have this problem.

The AI package is quite good, the only drawback being that you dont get free drinks after midnight, but with the early wakeup calls from the cleaners this didnt really bother us! The food is nice and is quite varied and even though I am a fussy eater I felt I still had plenty to choose from. Generally there was a couple of potato dishes, a few rice dishes, pasta and then various meat caserole type dishes available, along with carvery meat, and then lots of types of salads. the desserts werent great, all very sugary and mostly little cakey things which we found tasted a bit strange. Its also a little bit difficult to tell what you are getting!

There is a little shopping arcade in one of the other hotels in the group. These sell some nice touresty things and there is a bank there too if you need to change money. there is also a general store that sells chocolate and drinks and things. You can also get cigarettes here and they are very cheap, cheaper then duty free from the airport! It is nice to be able to wonder around these little shops but the owners are very harrassey and wont leave you alone to browse. I found the best way to deal with this was to have a couple of drinks before visiting the shops, i felt braver and it was easier to get a bargain!! ( I must stress that I am not a big drinker although it may seem that way from this review! )

Overall I really liked this hotel, I thought It was lovely and clean, the food was good and the staff were friendly. My friend and I had a great time and were sad to leave. If you have any questions please feel free to sent me an email.

“Fabulous Resort”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

Not long back from a week at the Sol y Mar Mirabel Park. What a fabulous place. We arrived at approx 1 in the morning to see the staff polishing d marble floor in the lobby,we noticed throughout the holiday that this is the norm at this hotel and areas are constantly cleaned etc throughout the day.
We were then shown to our room overlooking the fabulous pool area, extra large balcony also which was a plus.Lovely bathroom, big double walk in shower, again all spotless. We found all the staff really nice & friendly, there was one or two at reception who could have been more helpful & polite but overall were very nice.Mirabel Beach & Mirabel Club also on resort site,Beach resort being the biggest, fabulous aswell although larger than Park resort, perhaps a little too big?Club is the smallest of the hotels.2min walk to the hotels private beach was lovely through the beautiful gardens etc of the hotel. We got beautiful weather for the week also, approx 30/32degrees most days.
The All-Inclusive package was good although my only complaint was that room service was not included, there are also 3restaurants on site which are not included in all inclusive package. After tiring of the buffet as I think is always the same with AI packages we headed down to check out a couple of restaurants in Naama Bay,Pomodoro was our favourite & we ate here twice in the week, its located just beside Pacha and the Camel Bar(down past KFC),really good food & really reasonably priced with our full meal & drinks coming to approx £20/25!The onsite restaurants on site at the hotel more expensive & food not as good so would suggest going to Naama Bay instead if you're looking for a change from the buffet.Naama Bay is approx 15/20min drive away from the Mirabel however didnt find this a problem at all with the hotel shuttle leaving you in and back at selected times for you to choose from.
All in all I was extremely impressed with Sharm el Sheikh and the Mirabel Park, Sharm was a far nicer resort than I had imagined with modern beautifully designed hotels, majority of which seemed to be 4/5 star and I will definitely return, and definitely to the Sol Y Mar Mirabel Park.

“Lovely Complex”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

Jan 19, 2008
15/15 found this review helpful

Just got back from the Mirabel Club which is part of the Sol Y Mar Beach and Park complex. The complex is massive, - very clean, but be aware if you stay in the Club you can only use one bar on the beach and the bars on the Club complex - their are a number of other bars and speciallity resturants on the complex but you need to pay for these - this was a bit annoying as when we booked all inclusive we where told we could use all of the facilities/bars etc.
The Rooms at the Club where lovely - spacious - the cleaner came every day - he made swans hearts snakes out of our towels every day. Take some £1 coins for tips as every body wants a tip.
The weather was good - nice and sunny but some days it was very windy - go down onto the beach and get behind the wind breaks - you will get a fantastic tan. You need a jumper or coat at night as it does get cold.
The pools where lovely - especially the heated one which the children where greatfull of as the daily entertainment was either in German or Russian - not catered for english at all. The waterslides where great but the pool was freezing - but - the children still went on them - they even managed to get a lovely lady on them on our last day who we met called Jackie - dont think she will be doing that again.
The food was lovely - hot and lots of choice, lovley salads, cakes and the bread was to die for.
We met some fantasic people on this holiday - Hello Emma Paul Dan Lauren Richard Michelle Megan Cerys Paul Chris Jackie Andrea Darren Sarah Scott Alison - just a pity we where only staying for one week and had to leave you behind. Hope to see you when we have a reunion.
The entertainment at night was not very good - we made our own with MC Paul! - Kingston Town will never be the same again.
We did go out to Narma Bay - we got a taxi from outside the hotel £5.00 each way - agree your price before you get in and dont pay any more. When we arrived we got a taxi from the airport and they tried to charge us £25.00 we ended up paying £15.00 - cannot understand this as when you go out to Narma Bay you need to go past the airport to get there. Dont be put off when you get out of the taxi at Narma Bay - its MAD - but once you have crossed the road and got onto the main strips they dont pester you as much. Its a good night out there but just watch the prices for drinks - it can be expensive.
We will be going back to Sharm again next year but will try another hotel closer to Narma Bay - but - if you want a chilled relaxing holiday this complex is for you. Hope this review is helpful. Karen Barry Callum - Bolton - England
