For what I paid for this hotel,I thought it was fine. The staff are friendly but slow!!! Over friendly when they are trying to sell you stuff, then cold shoulder if you dont want what they are selling. The food was "the run of the mill" for your typical AI.A lot of stomach problems going round. I was fine, its not the food, the staff eat there.I wasnt stupid enough to sit out in the sun all day and drink cold drinks.Big tip drink lukewarm drinks, boring I know but not as boring as being ill for a few days. And drink plenty, keep out of the sun for a couple of hours in the afternoon, for July it was extremly hot (40-45).Yes the pool area is busy and yes pay the pool boy £5.00 a week for a good spot with shade. The pool area is always kept clean and the pool is lovely and "warm" not cold at all.The entertainment is fair they do their best.watch out for waiters bring food/drink round on trays...it aint free!!!Our room was a fair size but upgraded to have 2 rooms as we travelled with a 13 yr old.Only cost £7 extra a night and the two rooms were massive, well worth it.Cleaners came in everyday to remake beds and tidy bathroom.ours made figures out of towels. On our second week the hotel was fully booked, but didnt feel it.The games room has 2 pool tables which are free !!! A table football and table tennis. There is also 2 PC with internet access at a charge £5.00 for an hour I think. The on sight shop is okay but if you take a walk out of the hotel, turn left, top of road turn left again there is a few shops, also a excursions shop, which the hotel use and charge you extra for it!!!I would recommend the Tiran island trip, last all day and is very relaxing. You stop 3 times for snorkelling which you can hire for £2.00 snorkle £5.00 for life jacket which I would recommend for kids as they can just float and see all the fish,There are loads!!The "beach" is private but not at the hotel,it is a 10 min bus drive away.It is a man made beach and not sandcastle material. You cannot paddle as it is a reef with a jetty,so you jump in and thats it,you dont touch the bottom.Snorkel is advised as fish are close to reef.We bought a "decent" set for our lad for £12.00,and a life jacket for £48.00 which we were told was a very good price. We got these in Naama Bay.A free bus to Naama Bay is available from the hotel. It runs in the evening and you need to book your seat.It is worth a visit just for the experience.Annoying hassling egyptians. In Naama Bay you have lots of fast food outlets which the "fat" family seemed to notice on the way in.Hard rock cafe is a must, only if for a drink its loud. When walking round and you are approached just a firm "no" and put your hand up usually works. And the same for the beeping taxis.Taxis are very cheap and scary.I still couldnt work out which was the overtaking lane. They like to take english money so you neednt worry about exchanging enough and there are plenty of ATM's about as well. There is also a public beach just down from the hotel.Get a voucher at reception a pound each to get in. Its okay, there is snorkels for hire and cheap food and drinks.be carefull of the ice lollies, one bite and they just melt.Tipping is a big thing. For the wages they are on (about £40.00 a month!!). We tipped our waiter and cleaners at the end of the 2 weeks.£5.00 each. When "booking" taxis trips etc, they are on egyption time - late!! Dont expect a cool evening the tempreture never seems to drop. Overall it was a good relaxing holiday. No good for beach lovers or kids who love the "seaside".The hotel had mixed nationalities, mainly british.I would come back again but at a cooler time.Oh you have to watch the piano man in the evening. He is great, doesnt play the organ just pretends, spends most of his time checking his watch or his phone, singing a mixture of english and traditional songs-badly. Its just funny.

“A fantastic holiday!”

We (my boyfriend and I) visited this hotel during the 1st week in May this year (2008) and had an absolutely fantastic time. We were a little concerned because of some of the previous reviews of this hotel but our concerns vanished on arrival. The staff were brilliant - so polite, helpful and welcoming- and the hotel itself was spotless and well kept. We ate in the hotel every day for our meals, but had lunch and dinner out a couple of times just for a change. The selection of food was absolutely fine, just what you would expect from an all inclusive. You definitly will not starve! The rooms were perfectly adequate - enough space with a decent sized bathroom and air conditioning. We took full advantage of the services of our fantastic rep and organised a sunset dinner cruise, quad biking in the desert, a day's snorkling and a day at the water park - all highly recommended. It was our first time in Egypt and we had an amazing time. I can highly recommend this hotel to fellow travellers and if you want to know more I am happy to be contacted for further information. Happy holidays!

not a sunbed to b had unless u pay the pool boy......all the beds were gone b4 4am u couldnt get an umbrella if u tried.....lovely pools but like i said u have to pay if u want a lounger beside them.... food is awful.. i can eat anything or so i thought but this is awful...needed an injection half way through the holiday which costed 100.00 so make sure u find the nearest mcdonalds as soon as u get there.. rooms r okay u get what u pay for..the ones on the ground floor r the worst not many with a verrander/terrace just a steel barrier outside ur patio door..no entertainment apart from for about 30 mins at 10pm which is not worth staying up 4..i would not go to this hotel again even though it was cheap..also change ur money in the hotel there is no exchange charge so u get the best for ur money..also more than 40 degrees so make sure u take a high sun factor as its boiling... my advice is go out everyday 2 eat and just use the hotel as a base to sleep in ............xx

“not bad at all”

Sol Y Mar Sharming Inn

Just returned from the Sol Y Mar Sharming Inn.

we were extremely worried after reading some of the reviews and even tried to change our accomadation a few days before we left.

once we had checked in and been taken to our room we could finally relax.
the room was lovely, it had a huge bed and was very spacious. we were dissappointed to learn that most room do not have balconies but the panoramic window were absolutley fine, they open like patio doors and you can hang out towels and shorts to dry on the rails.
we did take the advice of a previous reviewer and offered the receptionist £5 (Eng) to give us a nice room, its worth doing.
the rooms were cleaned every day but they do take away your mini bar after a few days if you dont use it. ( you do have to pay for anything out of it)

the food was a little bit repetative but it was nice.

we didnt watch any of the entertainment because we were drained at the end day due to the heat but we would take a tray full of drinks to our room and watch a movie. they have several film channels in English.

the staff were friendly.

it started to get very busy half way thorugh our week and so we did find ourselves getting up at 6am to put towels out or there was no chance of a sunbed. some people were actually putting theirs out at 1.30am before the y went to bed and yes there were some people who put towels out and never used the beds all
day.

the publuc beach is just round the corner but you do have to pay £1 to go on, or you can go to the hotels beach which is on a building site but the sea life is better if you want to snorkel. if you go in the morning though you cant come back untill 1pm. i would recommend going at 3 and coming back at 5, plenty of time there and not as busy.

Overall it was fine for what we wanted - a cheap week in the sun.

we have been to Egypt before and stayed in Sharks bay, the hotels there are very nice and in my opinion the sea life is much better.

although we had a good time and the hotel was better that expected after the reviews i would not choose this hotel again i would go for a 4 star in Sharks bay - you wouldnt believe the difference.

A few tips
waiters will walk around with glasses of fresh orange and cocktails by the pool and in the resteraunt - they are not free!!!

there is no snacks in between meals, just bread rolls.

there is however a list of all inclusive cocktails that the bar staff hide, i didnt clock it until the last day when it was on the bar and when some freinds of our ordered one he took the menu straight off the bar again and hide it
