Despite sitting at No1 in the TripAdvisor listings for Hotels in Sharm El Sheikh if you are used to staying in 4 or 5 star hotels then you will be dissapointed with this hotel. Interestingly this hotel does not appear to be featured in the main UK brochures.
We did our research using TripAdvisor and based on what we read we chose the Hilton Fayrouz and booked direct with the hotel. The information flow to and from the hotel via e-mail was very good.
We flew from Gatwick to Sharm and were met at the airport by a hotel driver and taken directly to the hotel. Check in was very quick and efficient and we were shown to our room.
The reviews on TripAdvisor did say that the rooms were 'dated' however that was the least of our problems. Our room was dirty and unhygenic - blood stains on the curtains, mould and dirt on all of the floor rugs and a dirty bath - totally unacceptable!!
I phoned the hotel reception to complain (twice) before they sent someone out to clean the room. The following morning we were given the choice of moving rooms or viewing our existing room after it had been cleaned. The alternative room was no better however our existing room had benefited from new curtains, new rugs and an extensive clean so we opted to stay where we were.
The hotel grounds are very nice and looked after extremely well. The hotel staff are extremely friendly and eager to please. The guys in the restaurant were absolutely fantastic as was the beach attendant who ensured that we had everything that we needed. On a cultural note, everytime we went to reception we were greated politely by the reception staff. I say we, in reality my wife was completely ignored and not addressed - probably cultural but offensive none the less.
The Spa facilities at the fitness centre are comparable in price to UK and not really upto UK standards. The Spa Rep who canvasses you each day on the beach is very annoying. The Beauty Salon is a separate building from the Spa and offers manicures and pedicures (£20) etc. The buiding is not very clean or hygenic and I would suggest getting your beauty treatment done in the UK.
The hotel's location is excellent and enjoys the best beach front location in Na'am Bay. The beach is great, plenty of space and ample sun loungers and has direct access to the water. The hotel is located a short walk away from the centre of Na'am Bay and all the attractions that it offers.
We went B+B for the first week and enjoyed eating out at numerous restaurants along the Prom. Second week we upgraded to HB and ate mostly in the main hotel restaurant. All the food we ate was to a high standard and good value for money.
We didn't go on any trips as we just wanted to relax on the beach and enjoy the sun, if you do decide to venture out I would advise booking locally and not through a tour rep.
We met a few English people who had booked the same way that we did and they said they were as disappointed as we were. The hotel guests are mainly Italian and Russian with a few Brits. We didn't experience any problems with the Russians however the Italians are very vocal is all I will say!!
It is advisable to change your money in Sharm as the exchange rates are better. UK pounds, US Dollars or Euros can be exchanged without problems.
If you take into account the staff, grounds and location then this hotel will suit most but I just can't agree that it does enough to justify it's current No1 position.
