After reading several bad reviews, we almost switched hotels. I'm glad we didn't. One of our tour guides said the Princess has responded to the negativity and made some real upgrades. The showers were hot, the ac was cold, and the service was fine for a third-world county. The breakfasts were decent, and the hotel has a lot to do. The neighborhood is not at all bad. We walked it every night. On one walk a woman asked us if we were looking for something. Turns out we were: the Chon Saan Chinese restaurant. Believe it or not, she works there--she was our waitress for the evening. Just typical of the friendliness we encountered all over the place. Can't say I want to go back to Belize--I'm a city boy--but our stay at the Princess was good.

The first time we stayed at The Princess we checked in only to discover that there was no hot water. They assured us they were working on it and would have it resolved the following day before we checked out so we could shower before our long travel day but no such luck. The first time we didn't think much about it. We weren't offered any compensation but we didn't cause a fuss and just thought these things happen. The second time we stayed (a week later) my friend made a joke when we checked in about them having hot water right?? And the guy said actually no, but guaranteed us we'd have hot water by 8pm or our room was free. So we took a chance. Bad move. Of course come 8pm there was no hot water. Come 9pm no hot water. We asked to speak to the manager who informed us that "Oh no, they weren't going to have hot water for at least another few days" and wasn't sure why someone made us that promise. We decided to check out that instant and although our room was free (we were only in it for a few hours) they had the audacity to charge us for our internet use ($5). The manager was a complete moron and we didn't get so much as an apology. If they had been honest upfront we wouldn't of checked in and wouldn't of had to find another hotel at 10pm the night before a 17 hour travel day! Stay away.

Having stayed at The Princess last Jan and in spite of the bad press it was getting I felt that another stay would be fine. How wrong I was, I am a reasonably easy going person and don't really get hot under the collar but although the staff were all very pleasant and helpful they really didnt have a clue about what was going on. Case in point as the evening buffet was pretty poor we decided to ask the restaurant check in girl what was on tonight she looked at a list and said its thursday so it's barbecue night, ok we thought sounds good, once we were in no barbecue food in sight. The food was poor and lacked inspiration, worse than school dinners. Really this hotel could be good, it has loads of potential but really the staff lack management direction, and a few more of them would'nt hurt. The Hotel is in a good location and has great facilities Casino, Cinema, Pool, Gym, Bowling Ally come on guys please get your act together and make this place suitable for visitors.

We stayed in this hotel in January 2006 and our experience was quite pleasant. Seeing that I am a Belizean I thought it would be better as we heard that it had been renovated and updated.
Wrong, We stayed again dec 06 to Jan 07and our room was cleaned around 2 to 4pm and two days it was not cleaned at all. Room sevice cutlery stayed outside doors for two days. The water was about a trickle and sometimes no hot water. the foodwas just awful with no labels saying what was waht. We stayed for 12 days and onthe the Belizean Buffet in my opinion was of any good. The buffet waitresses were kind an polite and gave good service.
The place needs a new chef and some serious thought. Our room was satisfactory. It is also good as there is a cinema and also a disco and a bowling alley for entertainment and not far from town centre.
Can't say that I will be staying there again.
