“Beautiful hotel”

I visited this hotel on something of a business trip. It has nice outdoor hallways throughout the facility so you can soak in the sun and smells of the flowers. The service was nice. There is a shuttle to a part of the beach they own because the resort is not directly on the beach. When I was at the beach, there was no one else there so it was nice and quiet.

“Loved it”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

Oct 11, 2008

My husband & I spent 3 nights at the Fairmont Turnberry. Thankfully we were given a friends & family rate at $139.50 per night (half off the base fairmont room rate of $279). At that rate for this type of luxurious property we really had nothing to complain about!

The Fairmont Room was spacious and comfortable. Our room overlooked the smaller pool, however we chose not to sit on our porch as the furniture was extremely dirty and mildew. We were quite suprised at this because the property overall is so beautiful and clean, but they somehow forgot to either clean or replace the porch furniture. The bathroom is the highlight of the room with a separate soaking tub and shower, plus a water closet. Double sinks would've been nice but the large single sink was just fine.

I ordered room service the first morning and was very unimpressed with the food. However, we ate at Bourbon Steak, a Michael Mina restaurant on property which was very nice. Expensive, but good food and ambiance - you get what you pay for! My husband golfed on the Soffer Course and I spent that time at the Fairmont Spa. The spa menu was exactly the same as the Fairmont in Bermuda so I was very familiar with the treatments and enjoyed my massage. My husband liked the course and would've played twice had it not been for the $195 green fee. But we knew the rates going in and since it was only a 3 night stay, he was satisfied with his one experience on the course. We also ate breakfast on the last day at the Cascata Grille. We opted for the a la carte menu versus the buffet and were both very pleased with the quaility of the food. Yes, it was expensive but again it's a Fairmont property so we expected the prices to be high.

As other reviewers have said, there is a $12/day plus tax per person resort fee, which works out to be about $27 additional per day for a party of two. I'm not quite sure what you get for this extra cash other than a glass of water each night and you don't have to tip the valet or the bellman, but you still are charged $30 per night for valet parking. If we were paying the regular rate, we may have been upset about this additional fee, however this was not the case and we were very blessed to stay in such a great property at a very reasonable rate.

“Small Issues at almost great hotel”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

4 of 5 stars
Melbourne, FL
Oct 6, 2008

Lots of amenities at this hotel. Big, beautiful pool with fancy cabanas available. Super clean and relaxing lazy river. Lovely lobby bar and public areas.

However, the little things really matter to me and a few of those prevent me from giving this property the highest rating.

When we checked in to our deluxe room (slightly more square footage than standard king room) our key cards wouldn't work. Walked back to the elevator to use the house phone and call the operator and were told someone would be right up. By the time we walked back to room, key cards were working so we went in to unpack. About five minutes later, a security person pushed open our door and asked, "Why is your door open?" It wasn't open but the doors don't swing closed hard enough to fully latch. I was kind of puzzled about why he would just walk in without knocking. He then explained that it takes about 10 minutes for the key cards to start working after one checks in. Well, it would have been nice to hear that from the front desk.

Also, there was a housekeeping vacuum cleaner and a small bag of trash next to the room door from the time we checked in until we left the next day. Not a huge deal but it was just ugly and for $500 a night, I would prefer not to see ugly next to my room.

The room was spacious and the bath was very nice. The bed was quite comfortable. There was a ceiling fan with a remote control but the remote did not turn off the fan or change the speed as the controls indicated. Pulling the chain on the fan didn't make any difference either. The fan could not be turned off which bothered me as I don't care for the constant breeze when I am sleeping. Again, not a huge deal but just another little detail the "great" hotels don't overlook.

There was a clock/radio next to the bed with an IPod dock which is a nice feature but for some reason, it picked up interference and would emit a very loud cracking sound a couple times an hour. We had to unplug it to eliminate the noise and then you can't use the dock.

The golf pro shop is advertised as being really nice and well stocked. It was underwhelming. Absolutely NOTHING special.

On the plus side, the food from room service was very tasty and prompt and the spa services and setting were also very nice.

Having said everything, we would return to the property if we were returning to the Miami area but I still can't rank the property with the best.

“Lovely Hotel”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

Sep 26, 2008

My wife and I spent almost 3 weeks at this hotel and enjoyed every minute. The hotel is lovely and the staff are very helpful and polite. It was so good, that it was difficult to leave the hotel to go exploring. My wife managed this quite well by developing tours of the Aventura shopping mall. This is very close to the hotel and they run a free shuttle bus

We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the resort. The room was spacious and well presented.

There are two pools. The original pool is certainly for the older folk with no kids. It is usually quiet and there are plently of loungers, a bar and the option for food to the poolside. There is also a livelier pool complex which has cabanas (at a charge) plus water slides for the young - and not so young. There is also a grill there so you can spend the entire day there quite easily.

Restaurants are great. The Bourbon Steak House is very good and the steaks have to be seen and eaten to be believed. Breakfast buffet in the Cassata Grill is excellent and there are a variety of items available that will suit all ages.

As with all smart hotels in Miami, there is a charge for valet parking (currently $30 per day). That being said, the service is very good with a phone ahead facility that ensures your wheels are there as you depart the building.

I would recommend this hotel for all ages.
