“Nice stay outside of Miami”

My husband and I stayed at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle over the Memorial Day weekend in May 2008. I was there for a conference. We enjoyed the hotel very much. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was beautiful. The bed was comfortable. Our balcony overlooked the green of (I think) the 7th hole. The staff was very helpful and polite. Of note, the grounds crew for the golf course work on the course in the morning - not break of dawn early, but if you like to sleep really late, you might be woken up if your room faces the course. We woke up at 7am each morning to our alarm, not to the grounds crew.

Golf: We attempted to play the Soffer Course in the afternoon but we were rained out. We had a special rate due to the conference - when we were rained out, the pro shop booked us for the next morning at the same rate. If you play in the morning, be aware that you will have a forecaddie which costs extra. The golf course was beautiful and in excellent condition.

Pools: There was a smaller pool near our room which was more peaceful and intimate than the main pool. I believe this pool was adult only but I'm not 100% sure. The main pool was great with a waterfall, lazy river and a decent water slide. There are cabanas with ceiling fans for rent and wait service.

Restaurants: We ate at 2 restaurants on the premises - Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak and the Cascata Grille. The Cascata Grille is pretty informal with good food and hotel prices. Bourbon Steak has very attentive wait staff and excellent food and wine. You order your steak and if you want to order sides you can. I had the best peas and carrots ever. The prices are higher here but it is a good dining experience.

There are tennis facilities but I don't play, and we had reservations at the spa but cancelled them to do a harbor boat trip in Miami instead.

Adventura is a very nice area outside of Miami. There is a good mall with a movie theater within walking distance from the hotel but the hotel has a free shuttle. The mall is good place to spend rainy afternoons (often in Miami). There are also a lot of great restaurants in Aventura if you want to eat outside of the hotel but you may need a car to get to some of them. We spent some time in Miami which was also great. If you want to do a lot of outdoor activities there in May, you may want to plan them for the morning as we got rain every afternoon but some afternoons were less than others.

“Pleasing Stay”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

My wife and two teenage children had an enjoyable stay at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle. We had a 2-bedroom suite overlooking the golf driving range that was quite large and comfortable. The upscale hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the Aventura Mall (a huge benefit for my daughter) near the border between Miami and Fort Luaderdale. It had been awhile since I'd been to South Florida, so I hadn't realized that the hotel was a full 30 minutes from South Beach, worth noting if you plan on spending some time there. The grounds, including the pool and lazy river were quite nice. I didn't have occasion to use the golf course, but it appeared to be very nice. Note that caddies are required, at least for the early part of the day. Restaurant prices were very high. While the breakfast buffet in the Cascadia Lounge may be worth the $27 pp. price, the less costly $19 breakfast buffet in the bar area was not a good experience--the staff seemed ill prepared for the crowd, we lost seats that had been given to us, and there was very little food to be had--our only true disappointment at the hotel. Lunch by the pool was good, though again the crowd one day seemed to overwhelm the help. A short shuttle will take you to the mall or the hotel's private beach--a nice quiet location. All in all, a nice stay.

“Beautiful but has some problems”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

We got a great price for this hotel because of the time of year. It's really beautiful. The rooms are large and luxurious. The new pool area is awesome. The lazy river was nice and the big pod chairs are great.

I knew about the valet parking charge and resort fees beforehand, so I wasn't surprised by them. But 30 a day is steep considering tips and that you're in the Miami suburbs. Maybe that's a pet peeve of mine. I find valet parking to just be annoying.

Where this hotel fails is with service. The staff is nice, but there were just lots of little things that weren't right. There is no accessible ice machine for guests and the ice bucket is only filled once at night. If you want ice any other time of the day you need to call room service. That's annoying.

The elevator broke and no one put a sign up to let us know it was broken. They couldn't tell us when it would be fixed. We were with an 88 year old and a 2 year old. That would have been BAD if the elevator didn't work because we were on the 6th floor. (It did get fixed in a couple of hours.)

As another reviewer said, housekeeping was very odd. We constantly seemed to be running into the housekeeper in our rooms, which has never happened before. They were always late. It was just odd and kind of annoying.

The spa was nice. The exercise room is adequate. My massage therapist talked through the whole massage, but I guess I could have asked her for silence. Still, at those prices I would like to have relaxation!

The best part were the buffet breakfasts which were included in our package. They were really great and I gained weight from them!

Overall, I liked the trip and the hotel is really gorgeous, but I probably wouldn't stay here again even with a fantastic rate.

“A Great & Luxurious Stay!”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

5 of 5 stars
Toronto, Canada

I was totally shocked when I read the reviews of Fairmont Turnberry Isle that were recently posted. It's like those reviewers were in a different hotel.

My family stayed there for 2 nights and we had a very wonderful & outstanding experience. However, it didn't mean that the hotel was perfect. There were minor problems but someone came to fix them right away (e.g., screw came off shower door handle, lower shower wouldn't stay in place, beach club too far away, cushions on beach chairs not clean enough). These minor issues were so trivial that they did not bother us too much or take the enjoyment away from our stay.

The fact that we were upgraded to a deluxe room close to 600 sq. ft. at 8:30 a.m. on early Sunday morning after our cruise ship docked was a huge compliment. We were so tired that having a room at that time which enabled us to have a few hours' sleep was added bonus (I was going to pay for the extra hours if they were to charge us). Our friends who stayed in a different hotel close to the airport had to wait till 3 p.m. to get a room, even though the hotel had empty rooms. They were told that their room type was not available. However, at 3 p.m. they got an upgrade to suites that were vacant at 8:30 a.m. that morning. If hotel staff did not want to accommodate your needs, there's nothing you could do. So we were very thankful to the highly accommodating Fairmont Front desk staff.

When we dined in the dining room, we were greeted by many waiters by our names even though we were only introduced to one. They even remembered us when we went for breakfast the following morning. The service was top-notched. Breakfast was $34 (incl. tip & tax) which was not quite worth it. The food was only average.

The pools, the lazy river with lots of transparent tubes (some were doubles) for guests to use and the comfy cabanas were all fantastic. Poolside food was not that expensive, only $66 for 4 cocktails & 2 main dishes. As for resort fees and valet parking, it's to be expected in most Miami beach hotels. Thanks to most Tripadvisor Miami hotel reviewers as they have mentioned it in their reviews, so all these added costs were to be expected.

After all, I enjoyed my stay at the resort very much and would stay there again.

“Beware of hidden fees when considering this resort!!”

Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club

When booking reservations at this resort be sure to add an extra $57 per day to the daily room cost for mandatory hidden resort fees that are not included in the price that you are quoted when making reservations (plus the normal 13% tax).

My wife and I spent 6 days at this resort and I was initially annoyed on day 1 to find that I would be charged a mandatory $30 per day fee for valet parking. Which by the way you have no choice but to accept because there is no regular parking available on site. Later after checking out I was then surprised to find that we were also charged a $27.12 daily resort fee just for staying at the hotel. In my opinion I think that both of these fees should have been included in the final price that I was quoted when booking the room. I personally was very annoyed to find my stay to be $285 higher than I was quoted when making reservations.
