While on an extended stay in Prague for our 10th Wedding Anniversary, I booked spa treatments at the Alchymist Spa on two separate days, a week apart. We had the concierge at the Aria book these services for us. The Alchymist was just a short walk up the street from the Aria.
Our first visit was as a couple for a couples massage in a special suite designed for this service.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like VIP's.
The spa itself is absolutely amazing. It's located in the basement of the hotel and feels like you're entering a cave or the basement of an ancient castle (which sounds a bit weird on description but I can assure you it's very cool!) you walk across a little bridge that sits over a long coy pond. Everything in the spa is very modern and very high quality which is an interesting contrast to the rough hewn (and I'm sure, original) stone walls. This is contrasted with glass, decorative lighting, and high quality fixtures throughout.
The decor has a very Asian influence. There's even a giant Chinese bed to lounge in next to the pool. Very chic! Granted I was there on Monday mornings but the place couldn't have been quieter and more peaceful.
The massage therapists were AMAZING. I have had quite a few massages at spas at some of the finest spas around the US and the world and I have to say that, hands down (pardon the pun), this was one of the best massages I have ever had in my life.
Fair warning though, if you are used to getting massages in the US, Europeans do not have the same standards of modesty that we do here. My husband is very shy and I think he might have been way more uncomfortable about the experience had I not been in the room. Believe me they are absolute professionals and are excellent, but just be prepared! These ladies were amazing. Their style of massage was very physical and they actually get onto the table with you to get the best leverage. Believe me when I tell you that this was one of the best massage of my life!
It was great to spend our first morning in Prague getting a 90 minute massage and getting rid of all the aches and pains from travel the day before.
I went back a week later for some more treatments (while hubby was off driving a tank for the day at Off Road Action). I got a ginger body scrub, hot stone massage and a facial. Again, I had an excellent experience.
The body scrub was thorough and wonderful, as was the hot stone massage which helped ease my muscles and body, aching from a week of walking all over Prague. The facial was also excellent. They even shape up (tweeze) your eyebrows as part of the service (much needed by me at that point!) The whole facial was so relaxing I actually fell asleep and woke myself up snoring!! The technician was very professional and thorough. My skin was absolutely glowing by the time she was done.
I took a dip in their pool, which is perfect for cooling off after taking the sauna and getting warmed up.
The lockers, spa robes and slippers were all high quality. Facilities throughout the spa were spotless.
The woman who manages the spa is absolutely wonderful and incredibly helpful. She treats everyone like a VIP. She even gave us a tour of the hotel before we left (after our first visit). This hotel had been on my short list to stay and after seeing the place I wouldn't hesitate to stay here in the future-- although the decor is a bit over the top for most tastes. Nevertheless everything looks to be of the highest quality and the common areas are a delight.
They even have a little cafe and chocolate shop (with amazing chocolates) in the hotel.
Overall this place has an exotic and luxe feel about it without being stuffy and the spa is no exception.
If you are staying in Prague (no matter where you stay) I would highly recommend a visit to the Alchymist spa for a little "pick me up." Setting aside an hour or two of our vacation to relax and be pampered really re-energized us for touring this wonderful city.
The pricing for their services are very reasonable (cheaper by US standards for the quality of the spa and the services) even with the weak dollar -- and they often offer middle of the week discounts.
When we return to Prague we will be sure to visit the Alchymist spa again!
