“Nice stay in Porta Faenza”

Porta Faenza

Jul 30, 2008

We had a nice time in Porta Faenza Florence. Location is very nice. We could walk from the SMN train station and to all major sites. Very close to Duomo Church, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio. Front desk personel was very helpful and kind. They have a PC in the lobby with free internet access. Room and bathroom were nice and clean. They could improve the breakfast which wasn't very good. Overall, we had a very good time there and would come back.

This is a really nice hotel - more than a "bed and breakfast" that my girlfriend and I expected. Room was relatively spacious, clean-clean-clean. Nice firm queen-size bed as we requested. Air conditioning great. Bathroom also -- nice thick towels.

Very helpful staff - my girlfriend broke a wheel on her suitcase on the cobblestone street, and the desk person marked the map where she could find replacements at different prices and qualities. Late at night, the desk clerk saw me leaving with a bag of laundry and directed me to a "nicer" laundry a bit farther but indeed cleaner.

Just down the block is a great little restaurant "Nerone" that we mistook at first for a pizza counter, but inside it was a lovely full restaurant with reasonably priced dishes "to die for." And a Chinese-run grocery that will custom-make delicious sandwiches for you for less than the "paninis" available everywhere (and cokes for 58 cents vs. 3+ euros elsewhere!)

The breakfast is really fine, a notch above the ordinary B&B fare.

The only downside was the wireless internet died shortly after we arrived on Friday, and summers in Italy, that meant it was down until Monday, when we left for Siena.

“Great Place!!”

Porta Faenza

Jul 28, 2008

First of i have no idea why this is a 3 star hotel, i thought that it was really nice. It's located 5 minutes walk from Santa Marie Novella Train Station, there are plenty of shops nearby. The resturant at the top if the street especially is really nice.
We had one room and two beds, the rooms were big, we had TV, Shower/bath everything you need. There really wasn't anything negative about the hotel, except the fact that not understanding their streets etc it took us a while to find the hotel but other than that everyting was good.

Location is close to the train station which is convenient, but the hotel is a bit off the beaten path for all the shops and restaurants. Just a few blocks walk to where the action is, no big deal.

I was there with two other sets of travelers. The first room I was put in was a walk in closet that they crammed a bed into. The bathroom was not clean. I complained endlessly until they moved me to a bigger room, they charged me 20 Euros more a night which was fine. Once in the bigger room it was much better. Singles, book yourself a double and pay the extra money its well worth it.

The breakfast was good, plenty of hot coffee and fresh pastries. They could have used some more nutritious food, like better fresh fruit, but it was adequate.

The internet service was intermittant. You have to get a password from the desk and when the printer ran out of ink the night staff couldn't be bothered to walk into the office to get more ink or print out the password on the regular computer, something which the day staff immediately took care of. The internet service was extremely slow, if you have to do anything important better to walk up the block to an internet cafe and pay for it.

Very nice reasonably priced hotel within short walk to everything you would want to see. AC worked great- important because it was pretty warm the time we visited Italy. Nice front desk, close cafes and trattorias, short walk to train- all in all a really good stay!
