“Good Experience with Children”

San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort

Aug 4, 2008

I stayed with my wife and two children (3-5) in the begining of august 2008.

If you have children I suggest you book a family suite, which is a room with a large living room with a large sofa bed and they add an extra bed for the 2nd child. This room is separated by a partician from the parents room, which gives adults privacy when needed. The high ceilings and the size give a good sense of space and you dont feel at all crammped. The hotel is large so if you have children you dont feel you are imposing on romantic couples.

The only down point I can say was the bathroom fixtures in a nice large marble bathroom. You would expect larger and nicer shower heads and other fictures in this kind of room. Eventhough they may have water contraints.

This package is 500 euros per night + vat (10%) and is very good value for money. It includes breakfast, ice cream for the kids, and alot of fruit and chocolates upon arrival. They also let you choose a pay per view cartoon.

Regarding entertainment, might as well pay the 20 euro for unlimited 24 hour access including internet instead of paying 13 euros for one movie.

The breakfast was great with all that you would need until 11:00-11:30 either ion a terrace or inside, which is nice as you can sleep in and skip lunch only eating some light snacks around the pool, which service is provided by very nice and efficient staff.

The pool area was good as long as the other children are well behaved and relatively quiet. If not, the pool area immediately becomes small when out of control children are around.

Like the other reviews the shuttle service is great and yes, the fact of being away from the overcrowded touristic venice in 50 degree heat is great. When you want to leave and go to your haven of peace is just 10 minutes away.

The only down side was our arrival, which eventhough at a late hour (20:30) was not very welcoming.

Eventhough there where 2 porters a concierge and a receptionist, we had to wait with two kids in the lobby while the receptionist showed our friends their room and then came she came down to show us ours. Maybe this sounds a bit demanding, I dont understand why she and only she could accompany us to the room. But when you have been travelling all day with smaller children, we are all tired and hungry, all we want to do is take a shower and change and go to the restaurant it is a bit anoying to see everyone standing around waiting for this magic lady. .Especially with the only stuck up employee of the entire hotel is welcoming you. Everyone else was marvelous.

Remember to book the "informal" (which is not that informal) restaurant in advance as it gets booked quite quickly. Its not a problem of space, but a problem of the kitchen keeping up. They have the space outdoors (great views and atmosphere!!) they just cant produce the food. They say its due to the fact town planning didnt let them make a bigger kitchen. I think its more of a matter of organisation as Ive personally seen smaller places produce many more covers of the same quality.

Except for the receptionist lady, everything was great and reccomend it to all.

We have just arrived back from a long weeked at the San Clemente Palace. It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary and what a wonderful weekend it was. It was perfection from start to finish, stunning room, wonderful staff, superb food and the pool area is such a retreat from the hustle and bustle of St Marks Square. If you ever get the chance in your lifetime do not miss out on this little gem. Total luxury at its finest.

Just felt I had to write and say what a wonderful experience my husband and I had at the San Clemente Palace. It was luxurious from the moment we arrived to the when we left. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary boat over to San Marco, it was certainly an experience dodging the through traffic! Our deluxe room had a lovely view and was very comfortable and the swimming pool was such a treat to come back to at the end of a tiring day in the heat. We never ate in the restaurants but found the breakfast to be of a very high quality, it kept us full for hours. The staff were very professional and friendly and would go out of their way to help. I would definitely return here again.

“perfect romantic get away”

As our first weekend away without children in 10 years, this was always going to be a special trip. We had to ring the hotel to find where the motor launch was supposed to collect us, as the sign had been taken down. A beautiful wooden launch was then dispatched, 10 minutes later we were whisked away and it felt like the start of a real adventure . Some reviews say that having to get the boat to and from the island was tiresome, but we found it delightful. It was particularly breathtaking speeding across the water towards St Marks Square at night, watching this beautifully lit city come into view.

The hotel was clean and our standard room was very comfortable, with a very nice bathroom. The hotel had left us complimentary chocolates and champaign for our anniversary, along side a congratulatory card, which we thought was a nice touch.

The breakfast buffet had plenty for everyone and was extremely good. We did not eat at the hotel as it was very expensive (as is all of Venice) but we soaked up the ambiance. One clear advantage to us was that, given how busy Venice is, it was lovely to return to the tranquilty of St Clemente Island. Take advantage of the water bus passess and do some sight seeing that way. Also try the traghettos if you want to go on a real gondola but can't afford the high prices. They only take you across the Grand Canal but cost less than a euro. Not for the faint-hearted though.

If only we were rich enough to go every year!

San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort

This large hotel occupies an island approximately 15 minutes by the hotel launch from St. Mark's Square. The hotel has the air of a palace with wide, long corridors and spacious common rooms with high ceilings and an elegant main staircase. There is a delightful outdoor swimming pool and sun lounger area open June to September. Surprisingly, there is no indoor swimming pool. The Spa has two large jacuzzis [side by side] and a sauna.

Our accommodation was poor in relation to rating of the hotel and it's palacial design. The bedroom was small overlooking an enclosed courtyard. A large TV looked totally out of place. The wardrobes in the entrances area looked cheap, were poorly fitted and lacked sufficient draw or shelf space. The bathroom door edge just missed the poorly located washbasin of an otherwise adquately sized room. The fabric of the room seemed cheap and worn but adequately maintained. Toiletries, towels and bathrobes were of the quality expected on this class of hotel.

We only used the American Bar and Breakfast Room. The staff were attentive and very charming. The standard of services, food and drink were good.

The hotel is kept clean, tidy and uncluttered both inside and outside in the grounds.

The courtesy hotel launches operate every 20 minutes to and from St. Mark's Square only. Otherwise, the only way to cross the lagoon is by water-taxi.
